Senior Electrical Engineer - Data Centers & Mission Critical Infrastructure

Amentum’s Digital Infrastructure Group has been at the forefront of creating a new generation of communication infrastructure for over 40 years. We specialize in everything from network development to complete telecom life cycle solutions, datacenter retrofits and modernization, to full datacenter buildouts. While these critical environments are ever changing, the demand for innovative technology and long-term support remains constant. These services include design, construction, updates, and maintenance of new and existing datacenter facilities.

Amentum is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, engineering, construction, commissioning, and optimization of mission-critical electrical infrastructure for hyperscale and enterprise data centers. This role combines expertise in electrical power systems, controls integration, building automation, and data center critical environments to ensure reliable, scalable, and energy-efficient facility operations. The position will work closely with design teams, project managers, controls engineers, commissioning providers, contractors, and operations personnel throughout the full project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems, emergency power systems, controls integration, and mission-critical facility design. This individual will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for developing innovative solutions that support high-availability critical infrastructure environments.

Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Engineering

  • Lead the design and engineering of mission-critical electrical systems for new construction, expansions, and retrofit projects.
  • Develop and review electrical system designs, calculations, specifications, one-line diagrams, and construction documents.
  • Design and support:• Medium-voltage distribution systems
  • Low-voltage power systems
  • UPS systems
  • Backup generators
  • Switchgear and switchboards
  • Remote power panels and PDUs
  • Automatic transfer switches
  • Grounding and bonding systems
  • Electrical monitoring systems
  • Perform power system studies including:• Load flow analysis
  • Short circuit analysis
  • Selective coordination studies
  • Arc flash evaluations
  • Reliability assessments
  • Support electrical equipment selection and technical evaluations.

Data Center Infrastructure

  • Provide technical leadership for Tier III and Tier IV critical facility environments.
  • Support capacity planning and infrastructure growth strategies.
  • Ensure electrical designs align with uptime, redundancy, resiliency, and maintainability requirements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and network engineering teams to ensure integrated facility performance.
  • Participate in design reviews to confirm compliance with client standards, industry best practices, and mission-critical operational requirements.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies supporting AI, cloud, and high-density data center deployments.

Controls & Systems Integration

  • Collaborate with Controls Engineers to integrate electrical systems with:• Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
  • SCADA platforms
  • HVAC control systems
  • Fire alarm systems
  • Security and access control systems
  • Review control sequences and operational strategies for critical infrastructure.
  • Support implementation of communication protocols including BACnet, Modbus, and other industry-standard interfaces.
  • Participate in troubleshooting system integration and operational performance issues.

Construction Support & Commissioning

  • Provide engineering support during construction activities.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, change requests, and field modifications.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify installation quality and compliance with design intent.
  • Support construction teams during equipment installation, energization, and turnover activities.
  • Lead or participate in:• Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
  • Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
  • Functional Performance Testing (FPT)
  • Commissioning and startup activities
  • Validate system functionality through testing and performance verification.

System Optimization & Reliability

  • Analyze operational performance of electrical infrastructure.
  • Investigate failures, outages, and power quality events.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Develop solutions that improve reliability, maintainability, and energy efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and predictive maintenance improvements.

Documentation & Technical Leadership

  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including:• One-line drawings
  • Control schematics
  • Equipment specifications
  • Technical reports
  • Commissioning documentation
  • Operations and maintenance manuals
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams and clients.
  • Support development of engineering standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Participate in customer meetings and technical presentations.
  • Manage engineering deliverables and technical project documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 8 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably within mission-critical, industrial, or data center environments.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
  • Strong knowledge of:• Medium- and low-voltage power systems
  • Emergency power generation systems
  • UPS technologies
  • Power monitoring systems
  • Building electrical infrastructure
  • Experience supporting electrical systems through design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
  • Understanding of building automation and controls integration.
  • Familiarity with commissioning methodologies and testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards including:• NEC
  • NFPA
  • IEEE
  • NETA
  • ASHRAE
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with hyperscale or colocation data centers.
  • Experience with Schneider Electric, Siemens, Eaton, ABB, Vertiv, or comparable critical power systems.
  • Experience with BMS platforms
  • Knowledge of EPMS and SCADA systems.
  • Experience with data center commissioning and integrated systems testing.
  • Familiarity with scripting, automation, analytics, or digital twin technologies.
  • Knowledge of OT cybersecurity requirements and best practices.

       

Compensation Details:

$150,000 - $200,000
