Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and curious Associate Data Engineer to join our Analytics Hub and help transform data into a strategic business asset. This role is designed for early-career professionals who want to build a strong foundation in data engineering, analytics, and cloud-based technologies while supporting critical business functions across the organization.
The Associate Data Engineer will work closely with actuaries, analysts, underwriting, claims, and technology teams to develop and support data pipelines, analytical datasets, and reporting solutions that enable informed business decisions. The ideal candidate is a problem solver who enjoys working with data, learning new technologies, and collaborating with business partners to improve data accessibility and quality.
Work Arrangement:
- Employees who live within 30 miles of the TMG home office are expected to follow a hybrid or in-office schedule. The initial training period may require additional in‑office days.
Accountabilities:
- Develop and maintain data pipelines, data integrations, and analytical datasets that support actuarial, underwriting, claims, and business analytics.
- Partner with actuaries, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and assist in delivering reliable data solutions.
- Support Tableau, Power BI, and other reporting and analytics platforms by preparing and validating data assets and creating dashboards for management.
- Assist with data quality monitoring, validation, reconciliation, and documentation activities.
- Participate in the development of data products that enable self-service analytics and reporting.
- Work with technology teams to support cloud-based data platforms and integration processes.
- Contribute to automation and process improvement initiatives that increase efficiency and data reliability.
- Follow established data engineering standards, development practices, and governance requirements.
- Continuously learn and apply new technologies, tools, and techniques related to data engineering and analytics.
Qualifications:
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
- 0 to 3 years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, software development, data integration, or a related technical field.
- Foundational knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts.
- Exposure to Python or another programming language through coursework, internships, personal projects, or professional experience.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Experience
- Internship, co-op, research, or project experience involving data engineering, data analytics, reporting, or software development.
- Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, or similar reporting and visualization tools.
- Exposure to cloud technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, AWS, or similar platforms.
- Experience working with large datasets and data transformation processes.
- Interest in insurance, actuarial analytics, business intelligence, or advanced analytics.
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools, automation technologies, or machine learning concepts.
Pay Range:
Anticipated Hiring Range:
- $65,000 - $95,000 annual base salary depending on experience, qualifications, and geographic location
