Calling All Upstarters!

SENIOR FULL STACK DEVELOPER WANTED!

We are Upstart 13. We are humble, hungry, and competent people who are radically changing the expectations and experience of outsourcing for all participants by challenging barriers that create inequality and by bringing down borders in technology for people everywhere. We’re all about delivering value and doing big things. We have become a game changer for teams around the world who look to Upstart’s services as a differentiator.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Full-Stack Engineer located in LATAM to help build and run the web platform behind a browser-based computational design and generative engineering product — a system built on code-defined engineering models, where geometry is the result of the model rather than the input to it.

You'll work end-to-end on a TypeScript / React / Vite front end inside a pnpm workspaces + Turborepo monorepo, a Python / PostgreSQL backend, and secure deployment across both on-premise / self-hosted and Microsoft Azure environments.

What sets this role apart is how we build: AI-native by default. Prompt-driven development with MCP servers and agentic tooling is our primary workflow, not a novelty, and we expect you to be comfortable reading, forking, and extending unfamiliar codebases with minimal hand-holding.

The platform, the backend and hosting/security layer, and AI-native development are the foundation of the role. On top of that foundation sits the node-graph engine that drives the product, and around it a wider computational design and manufacturing stack. The qualifications below are grouped into what we need from day one, what will get you productive in the product quickly, and what is genuinely a bonus.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and evolve the web front end and platform in TypeScript, React, and Vite within a pnpm workspaces + Turborepo monorepo, keeping workspace dependencies, task pipelines, build caching, and Git practices clean as the codebase grows.
  • Build and maintain the Python backend (FastAPI, NumPy/SciPy) and the PostgreSQL data layer, writing clean and performant SQL.
  • Deploy and operate across two targets: on-premise / self-hosted (Linux, Docker, reverse proxy via nginx / Caddy / Traefik, network segmentation) and Microsoft Azure (App Service, AKS / Container Apps, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Key Vault, VNet).
  • Implement identity and security: Microsoft Entra ID integration, OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, session management, RBAC, API security, TLS, and secrets management.
  • Build and consume MCP servers and agent skills / tooling, using prompt-driven development (Anthropic API, Claude Code, Cursor, Replit) as a primary workflow.
  • Read, fork, and extend unfamiliar open-source codebases, and automate workflows wherever it saves the team time.
  • Expose the platform APIs and data flows the product’s design layer depends on, including import and export of geometry interchange formats (STEP, STL, DXF, 3MF, glTF).
  • Build and extend the node-graph layer that drives the product: the node editor, its execution engine, and the I/O contracts between nodes.

Qualifications

Technical skills:

  • 6+ years of experience working in software engineering environments.
  • Strong front-end and platform experience with TypeScript and React, building with Vite.
  • Proven experience in a pnpm workspaces + Turborepo monorepo: workspace dependency management, task pipelines, and build caching.
  • Solid Node.js tooling and Git practices.
  • Advanced working knowledge of PostgreSQL and SQL.
  • Proficiency with Python for backend and numerical work: FastAPI, NumPy, and SciPy.
  • Deep experience with on-premise / self-hosted deployment: Linux, Docker, reverse proxies (nginx, Caddy, or Traefik), and network segmentation.
  • Hands-on Microsoft Azure experience: App Service, AKS or Container Apps, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Key Vault, and VNet.
  • Identity and access management: Microsoft Entra ID integration, OAuth2 / OIDC, JWT, session management, and RBAC.
  • API security fundamentals, including TLS and secrets management.
  • Designing and exposing clean APIs and data flows for consumption by other layers of the product.
  • Hands-on experience building and consuming MCP servers, plus agent skills and tooling.
  • Fluency with the Anthropic API, Claude Code, Cursor, and/or Replit, with prompt-driven development as a primary workflow (not a novelty).
  • Open-source literacy: comfortable reading, forking, and extending unfamiliar codebases, plus workflow automation.

Preferred skills:

Node-graph and dataflow engineering:

  • Building node editors rather than only using them: React Flow (xyflow), Rete.js, or litegraph.js.
  • DAG execution engines: typed ports, topological sort, dirty-flag propagation, incremental recompute, caching, and graph serialization.
  • Hands-on with at least one node-based or dataflow tool: Grasshopper, Dynamo, Houdini, Blender Geometry Nodes, nTop, ComfyUI, or Node-RED / n8n.
  • Designing tools as composable nodes with clean I/O contracts rather than monolithic apps.

Soft skills:

  • Strong ownership mindset; self-directed and comfortable operating with minimal hand-holding.
  • Genuinely AI-native. Treats prompt-driven development as a core way of working.
  • Curious and adaptable; quick to pick up and extend unfamiliar codebases and tools.
  • Clear communicator and collaborator.
  • Enthusiastic, highly motivated, genuinely humble, hungry, and competent.

Bonus skills:

  • 3D in the browser: Three.js / WebGL, GLSL shaders, and geometry interchange formats (STEP, STL, DXF, 3MF, glTF).
  • Computational design / generative engineering: Implicit modeling and signed distance fields, topology optimization, lattices, DfAM, mesh processing, B-rep / NURBS (OpenCASCADE), and FEM fundamentals.
  • Robotics/manufacturing automation: Industrial robot programming (KUKA KRL or equivalent), kinematics, CNC / G-code, and toolpath generation.
