About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Python Pipeline Developer (Technical Director) to design, develop, and maintain production pipeline tools that support artists across multiple departments. The ideal candidate should have strong Python programming skills, hands-on experience with the ShotGrid (Flow Production Tracking) API, and a solid understanding of VFX production pipelines. You will work closely with artists, production teams, and supervisors to build scalable tools, automate workflows, and improve production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain production pipeline tools using Python.
- Develop automation solutions for asset management, publishing, rendering, and workflow optimization.
- Build and maintain integrations using the ShotGrid (Flow Production Tracking) Python API and ShotGrid Toolkit (SGTK).
- Develop Python scripting solutions for Autodesk Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Katana, and other DCC applications.
- Create desktop tools and utilities using PySide2/PySide6 and Qt.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production pipeline issues.
- Collaborate with artists, supervisors, and production teams to understand workflow requirements and deliver efficient technical solutions.
- Review code, mentor junior developers, and promote coding standards and best practices.
- Prepare technical documentation, deployment guides, and user documentation.
- Participate in R&D initiatives related to USD, AI-assisted workflows, cloud rendering, and next-generation pipeline technologies.
- 3–5 years of professional experience in Python development.
- Strong Python programming and scripting skills with excellent knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
- Hands-on experience with the ShotGrid (Flow Production Tracking) Python API.
- Experience developing production pipeline tools in a VFX, Animation, or Gaming studio.
- Experience with ShotGrid Toolkit (SGTK) and production publishing workflows.
- Experience integrating Python tools with DCC applications such as Maya, Houdini, Nuke, or Katana.
- Strong understanding of Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Comfortable working in Linux and Windows environments.
- Good knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, YAML, XML, and database concepts.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with artists and production teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience developing UI applications using PySide2/PySide6 and Qt Designer.
- Knowledge of USD, Alembic, OpenEXR, and OpenColorIO (OCIO).
- Experience with render farm management systems such as Deadline or similar to that.
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based deployments.
- Knowledge of Perforce or advanced Git workflows.
- Exposure to AI-assisted tools and workflow automation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
