This position reports to:

Quality & Operations Excellence Manager

As a Technical Writer supporting ABB’s Motion Drive Products business, you will turn complex technical and manufacturing information into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation that helps teams and customers use products and processes effectively. In this hybrid role, you will work closely with R&D, engineering, operations, quality, and testing teams to create, improve, and standardize manuals, work instructions, SOPs, specifications, and other key documentation.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid in New Berlin, WI.

Your role and responsibilities:

  •  Create, edit, and maintain technical documentation including user manuals, work instructions, standard operating procedures, requirements, specifications, and related product documentation.
  • Partner with R&D, engineering, operations, quality, testing, and other cross-functional stakeholders to gather technical information and translate complex content into clear, user-friendly documentation.
  • Review and improve existing documentation to increase consistency, accuracy, usability, and standardization across products and processes.
  • Coordinate document reviews and approvals, ensuring documentation stays current with product changes, operational needs, and internal standards.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree Communications, Engineering, Business, or a related field and 2+ years of relevant experience; OR Associate’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience creating technical documentation such as manuals, publications, work instructions, SOPs, specifications, or similar materials.
  • Experience gathering requirements and collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts into clear, easy-to-follow documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal and written English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience in power electronics, industrial automation, electronic manufacturing, or variable frequency drives (VFDs) is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
