Company Overview:

Intel 471 empowers enterprises, government agencies, and other organizations to win the cybersecurity war using the real-time insights about adversaries, their relationships, threat patterns, and imminent attacks relevant to their businesses. The company’s platform collects, interprets, structures, and validates human-led, automation-enhanced intelligence, which fuels our external attack surface and advanced behavioral threat hunting solutions. Customers utilize this operationalized intelligence to drive a proactive response to neutralize threats and mitigate risk. Organizations across the globe leverage Intel 471’s world-class intelligence, our trusted practitioner engagement and enablement, and globally-dispersed ground expertise as their frontline guardian against the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats to fight the adversary - and win.

The Role:

Intel 471 is looking for a PHP Engineer to help maintain and modernize Atlas, an internal application our analysts use to author and publish intelligence content. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the role is fully remote and open to candidates across Europe on a B2B 12 month contract basis.

Atlas is a mature application, and we're looking for a pragmatic engineer to help it evolve and to support its modernization onto our cloud platform. This is a hands-on role with real autonomy: you'll work on a system used across the company and help shape where it goes next. It suits a full-stack-minded engineer comfortable across an established Laravel codebase and its front-end, improving it methodically, and who values doing careful, dependable work.

Atlas is a mature Laravel application (PHP 8, MySQL) with a JavaScript, CSS and HTML front-end.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work across the Atlas stack, the PHP/Laravel back end and its JavaScript/CSS/HTML front-end, building and maintaining features in production.
  • Keep dependencies and the framework current, and improve testing, observability and developer tooling.
  • Triage and resolve production incidents and defects.
  • Extend automated tests, CI and deployment automation so changes ship smoothly.
  • Help modernize Atlas onto our cloud platform, in coordination with the platform and DevOps teams.
  • Document the system's behaviour, dependencies and runbooks so knowledge is shared.
  • Provide regular status updates so priorities stay clear.

Education, Experience & Qualifications:

Essential

  • Demonstrable, significant professional experience building and maintaining production PHP systems.
  • Hands-on experience with the Laravel framework, including safe version and dependency upgrades.
  • Working knowledge of front-end fundamentals (JavaScript, CSS, HTML) to build and maintain Atlas's interface.
  • A track record of improving established codebases safely, evolving them rather than rewriting from scratch.
  • Strong debugging, incident-response and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
  • Fluency with Git and CI/CD, and disciplined testing practices.
  • Able to work autonomously and take responsibility for the work you pick up, backed by the platform and DevOps teams.
  • Professional written and spoken English (B2 or above) for effective work in a distributed team.

Desirable

  • Experience migrating or modernizing established systems.
  • Familiarity with message queues (Kafka), object storage (e.g., S3), containers (Docker/Kubernetes) and AWS.
  • Security-hardening and dependency-management experience.
  • Exposure to cyber threat intelligence, data pipelines or high-volume ingestion systems.
  • React experience, opening up contributions to our Verity platform.
  • Comfort working with AI coding assistants such as Claude or Codex.

The role reports to our Director of Engineering but will be expected to interact and work closely with other areas of the company as needed - in particular the platform and DevOps teams. It is fully remote within Europe and involves occasional travel. The role requires regular contact with our international team located in the United States, South America, Western and Eastern Europe, and Asia, so a comfort working with diverse professional and cultural backgrounds is required.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Remote-friendly culture
  • Wellness programs
  • Employee recognition program
  • A variety of professional development opportunities
  • Inclusive culture focused on people, customers and innovation
