Job Description:

The Senior Data Solution Engineer designs, develops, and maintains data solutions and system adapters for EHR data migration and archival projects. This role analyzes legacy applications and databases, transforms healthcare data into ELLKAY’s proprietary data model, and provides technical leadership throughout the migration lifecycle.

The engineer also uses approved AI tools to improve project scoping, application discovery, data mapping, query development, quality assurance, documentation, and troubleshooting. All AI-generated outputs must be reviewed and validated before use.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Database and Application Analysis

• Analyze legacy databases, schemas, relationships, application functionality, and workflows to identify the data required for migration or archival.

AI-Assisted Project Scoping

• Use approved AI tools to review discovery notes, technical documentation, schemas, and metadata; identify project requirements, dependencies, gaps, risks, and complexity; and support more accurate effort estimates.

AI-Assisted Application Discovery

• Use AI to summarize application documentation, analyze database objects and code, trace potential data flows, and develop hypotheses about how application features relate to stored data. Validate all findings through technical analysis and stakeholder review.

Data Mapping and Modeling

• Define and document source-to-target mappings between legacy systems and ELLKAY’s data model. Use AI tools, where appropriate, to suggest field relationships, identify mapping gaps, and accelerate documentation.

Query and ETL Development

• Design, optimize, and maintain SQL queries and transformation processes for extracting, cleansing, standardizing, and loading healthcare data. Use AI coding assistants to support query development, optimization, and peer-review preparation.

Data Quality Assurance

• Validate query results and migration outputs for accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Use AI-assisted analysis to identify anomalies, reconciliation issues, missing data, and unexpected patterns.

Technical Troubleshooting

• Investigate complex database, application, performance, and data-quality issues. Use AI tools to help analyze errors, compare possible root causes, and evaluate potential solutions.

Collaboration and Client Support

• Work with Data Migration Engineers, Project Managers, clients, and other stakeholders to clarify scope, confirm requirements, manage expectations, and resolve technical challenges. Participate in client calls when project complexity requires senior technical support.

Documentation and Knowledge Management

• Maintain documentation for systems, workflows, mappings, transformation rules, queries, assumptions, and testing results. Use AI to help create summaries, standardize documentation, and capture reusable knowledge.

Technical Leadership and Mentorship

• Serve as a data migration subject matter expert, mentor team members, establish development best practices, and promote the secure and responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
• Five or more years of experience in data engineering, database development, data migration, or a related role.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience analyzing complex relational databases.
• Strong experience with data modeling, ETL processes, data transformation, and quality assurance.
• Experience scoping technical projects and translating application workflows into data requirements.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Healthcare application or EHR data experience is preferred.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding, analysis, documentation, or data-quality tools is preferred.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to mentor team members and provide technical leadership.
