ML Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer

Role Overview

eBay is seeking two distinct types of high-impact specialists to join our AI ecosystem: ML Scientists and ML Engineers. ML Scientists focus on designing state-of-the-art models for Ranking and Personalization, while ML Engineers specialize in building end-to-end infrastructure that transforms raw data into production ML systems delivering measurable business value.

Primary Job Responsibilities

ML Scientist Responsibilities

  • Model Research: Design and implement advanced algorithms for Ranking, Recommendations, Personalization, and Pricing.
  • ML Platform Development: Develop the core ML platform and feature engineering systems using Zipline.
  • Inference & Monitoring: Take responsibility for model serving, monitoring, and evaluating performance metrics.

ML Engineer Responsibilities

  • Productionization: Productionize models from research by building robust ETL/ELT workflows and inference pipelines.
  • MLOps & Infrastructure: Build comprehensive MLOps systems focusing on deployment automation and observability.
  • Optimization: Take responsibility for model performance SLOs and system cost optimization.

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

C$142,400 - C$190,100

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including RRSP eligibility, various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
