Full description
Join DFDS and help shape the future of cloud at scale
Do you want to play a key role in building DFDS’s cloud capabilities—and be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team that supports each other every step of the way? This is your chance to help us grow our Cloud Engineering team and contribute to a meaningful transformation journey.
About the role
DFDS — a 160-year-old company with an innovative mindset— is solidifying its presence in the cloud, and we’re looking for cloud engineers and SREs to join us on this exciting journey.
To make this a success, we’re strengthening our Cloud Engineering team responsible for modernizing our IT infrastructure and application landscape. This includes continuously improving our internal developer platform, cloud infrastructure, ensuring reliability, and promoting best practices in cloud security.
We are especially looking for people with experience in Platform Engineering and/or Site Reliability Engineering — but more than anything, we’re looking for people with a growth mindset and a passion for building reliable, scalable systems. We know that not everyone takes the same path into tech, and we welcome applications from those who are still learning, growing, or returning to the field.
“We’re a team that values diversity of thought, experience, and background. If you’re excited about the cloud — even if you don’t tick every box — we’d love to hear from you.”
You’ll join a supportive, cross-functional team made up of highly skilled cloud engineers and site reliability engineers, a chapter lead and a product owner. You’ll have the opportunity to help define our ways of working, contribute to strategy, and bring ideas to life.
The Cloud Engineering team focuses on three main areas:
- Cloud Infrastructure – Building and operating the foundational systems that keep us running smoothly (SRE focus).
- Developer Experience – Creating and evolving a self-service cloud platform that makes life easier for developers (Cloud Engineering focus).
- Container Factory – Partnering with application teams to containerize and modernize our software landscape (a mix of skills and collaboration).
This is a good opportunity to make a real difference — not just by delivering tools and code, but by influencing culture, improving processes, and helping others grow.
What you’ll be doing
Depending on your skills and interests, your work may include:
- Apply industry concepts using diverse tooling
- Writing infrastructure as code using Terraform or OpenTofu
- Developing tooling in Python or GoLang
- Supporting CI/CD automation and GitOps workflows
- Contributing to the containerization and modernization of applications
- Collaborating closely with developers, architects, and other teams to ensure cloud adoption
What you bring
We believe great engineers come from many paths—and we value curiosity, collaboration, and kindness as much as technical skills. If you’re passionate about solving problems and improving systems, you’ll fit right in.
You might have experience with:
- AWS or Google Cloud Platform
- Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform/OpenTofu)
- Kubernetes, containers (Docker/Podman), and microservice architectures
- CI/CD pipelines, GitOps, and observability tooling
- Messaging systems like Kafka, relational databases, or REST APIs
- Frontend technologies like React (though this is not core to the role)
- AI-assisted engineering experience delivering and driving outputs using tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.
What matters most is your willingness to learn, your ability to work well with others, and your desire to create tools that help teams succeed.
Why join DFDS?
We’re a diverse team of engineers, developers, and thinkers committed to supporting each other as we build something that will have a long-term impact across Europe and beyond.
Here’s what you can expect:
- An inclusive, supportive team that values your perspective
- Career development and learning opportunities tailored to your goals
- Working environment with flexibility and trust
- The chance to shape a platform used across a large, growing enterprise
- The space to contribute, influence, and take ownership in your work
- We believe that great work happens when people feel safe, supported, and valued.
At DFDS, we promote a great workplace with a diverse and vibrant community. At our Copenhagen headquarters, we enjoy a modern workspace with award-winning facilities, different work zones, own game room, fitness facilities, canteen and a café with a rooftop terrace with a beautiful ocean view, all just 5 minutes from the nearest train & metro station.
