Summary/Objective

The Operational Project Manager is responsible for delivering data centre operational projects, managing defects and leading change management activities. This role provides end-to-end project management, including scope creation, vendor engagement, procurement support, project execution and reporting. Reporting to the Senior Manager - Operational Projects, the Operational Project Manager ensures operational readiness, compliance and continuous improvement across critical infrastructure systems.

This role directly supports STACK’s commitment to 100% uptime and a concierge-level customer service experience, ensuring risk is proactively managed, planned works are executed safely, and customer communications are clear, timely and professional.

The role requires a seasoned manager with critical-environment expertise, strong cross-functional influence, and the capability to manage complex, concurrent programs across large-scale infrastructure builds. This position is central to bringing new sites online safely, efficiently and to a consistently high operational standard.

  • Implement a culture of safety, including regular safety walks and verification of safety documentation.
  • Plan, manage and execute operational projects across mechanical, electrical, fire life safety and base building systems.
  • Lead the defect management lifecycle, including identification, logging, reporting and closure with vendors.
  • Manage change processes, including preparation, CAB attendance, customer approvals and documentation.
  • Prepare project plans, risk registers and communication plans.
  • Coordinate vendors, review proposals, raise purchase requisitions and validate invoices.
  • Provide weekly updates capturing risks, issues, milestones and financial status.
  • Engage directly with customers and act as the key operational liaison.
  • Ensure compliance with operational standards and safety requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the operational readiness program for new data centre builds, ensuring sites meet STACK’s operational, safety and quality standards prior to go-live.
  • Manage coordination between internal teams, external vendors, general contractors and commissioning partners to ensure aligned and risk-aware execution.
  • Perform other duties as required, noting that responsibilities may evolve as projects progress and organisational needs change.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with procurement, vendor management and contract oversight.

  • Proven capability in managing complex project and program environments with multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills suitable for technical, operational and executive audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across internal teams, external partners and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage contractor performance and ensure high-quality, safe delivery of works.
  • Ability to evaluate technical risks, drive mitigation actions and make sound decisions in high-pressure environments.
  • High level of competency in operational change management, defect governance and commissioning oversight.
  • Strong customer focus with experience managing expectations during commissioning, transition and go-live phases.
  • Proficiency with CMMS, project management systems and reporting dashboards.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, plan and execute across competing deadlines.

Travel Required

  • Minimal routine travel between STACK Data Centre sites and the STACK Melbourne head office will be required as part of this role.
  • Occasional overseas travel may be required.

Required Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a critical environment.
  • Knowledge of data centre environments, including hyperscale, enterprise and colocation facilities, and the telecommunications industry.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications and other database housing software.
  • 3-5 years’ experience administering and managing multiple complex project programs.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in vendor and project management.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights and public holidays.
  • Must be comfortable working in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Work Authorisation/Security Clearance Requirements

  • Must be able to attain and hold STACK and customer security clearance.
