Schold Manufacturing, a leader in the design and production of high-shear mixers, media milling, and custom process equipment, is seeking a Sales Application Engineer for our Bedford Park, IL office (near Midway Airport). This role is suited for a self-directed, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, technical sales environment.

Job Description

The Sales Application Engineer supports the sale of capital equipment, parts, and service to customers worldwide across the industrial paint, coating, chemical, food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical markets. The role serves as a technical resource throughout the sales process, working directly with customers to evaluate applications, provide solutions, and support equipment sales. Responsibilities also include customer site visits, lab testing, and technical support for installed equipment.

This position is primarily an inside sales role reporting directly to the VP of Sales and includes an approximately six-month onboarding and training period.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with existing and prospective customers to define application requirements and develop technical solutions that result in equipment sales
  • Proactively identify and pursue new sales opportunities by engaging prospective customers, qualifying applications, and advancing opportunities through the sales process
  • Support inbound calls and emails, including preparation of budgetary and formal quotes
  • Prepare presentations and technical documentation to support customer-facing sales efforts
  • Set up, conduct, and document lab testing for customer products and applications
  • Generate 2D and 3D CAD drawings of proposed equipment configurations
  • Travel to customer sites and industry trade shows as required (approximately 10–20%)
  • Support customers by troubleshooting and resolving issues with installed equipment
  • Assist with research and development efforts for new or modified products
  • Provide technical input and support for marketing initiatives, including content development, when needed
  • Develop working knowledge of the product line and sales processes required to succeed
  • Spend a portion of the initial onboarding period (approximately 2–3 months) working in production and engineering to gain in-depth technical product knowledge

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical preferred) or related technical, sales-focused field
  • 2–4 years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or a related role preferred
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical products to a diverse audience
  • Self-directed with strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar business software
  • Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across sales, engineering, and customer teams
