POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Manager Engineering - Guestroom Services is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, functionality, and appearance of all guest rooms and related guest areas throughout the property. The role supports the Engineering Department by ensuring that guestroom assets, fixtures, fittings, equipment, and systems are maintained to the highest standards, delivering exceptional guest comfort, safety, and satisfaction while protecting the hotel's physical assets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Guestroom Engineering Operations
- Assist in managing all engineering and maintenance activities related to guest rooms, corridors, guest floors, and associated facilities.
- Ensure guestroom maintenance requests are responded to promptly and completed to established standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and guest floor areas to identify maintenance, safety, and quality concerns.
- Oversee preventive maintenance programs for guestroom fixtures, fittings, furniture, equipment, lighting, plumbing, HVAC systems, doors, windows, and decorative finishes.
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance activities to ensure minimal impact on guest experience and hotel operations.
- Monitor room defect trends and implement corrective actions to improve room quality and reliability.
- Support refurbishment projects, room upgrades, renovations, and asset replacement programs.
- Ensure all guestrooms meet Marriott brand standards and operational requirements.
II. Maintenance Planning, Work Orders & Asset Management
- Monitor and prioritize guestroom maintenance work orders to ensure timely completion.
- Coordinate room maintenance schedules with Housekeeping, Front Office, and other operational departments.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, preventive maintenance activities, and room maintenance history.
- Assist in managing inventories of guestroom maintenance supplies, spare parts, tools, and equipment.
- Support budgeting activities and monitor expenditures related to guestroom maintenance operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve maintenance efficiency, equipment reliability, and guest satisfaction.
- Ensure maintenance materials and replacement items meet hotel quality standards.
III. Leadership, Guest Service & Team Development
- Provide daily supervision, guidance, and support to Engineering associates assigned to guestroom maintenance operations.
- Assist with team scheduling, work allocation, and performance monitoring.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of Engineering associates.
- Foster a culture of service excellence, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with Housekeeping and Front Office teams to promptly resolve guest concerns and room-related issues.
- Maintain positive relationships with guests and ensure guest maintenance concerns are handled professionally and efficiently.
- Participate in duty management responsibilities and support operational requirements as needed.
IV. Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all guestroom maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with company policies and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and risk assessments within guestroom areas.
- Ensure safe use and storage of tools, equipment, chemicals, and maintenance materials.
- Monitor compliance with hotel brand standards, engineering procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Investigate and report incidents, hazards, equipment failures, and guestroom safety concerns promptly.
- Ensure guestroom assets are maintained in a safe, secure, and operational condition.
- Support sustainability, energy conservation, and environmental initiatives within guestroom operations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Building Services, Hospitality Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4-5 years of experience in engineering operations, facilities maintenance, or hotel maintenance, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Strong knowledge of guestroom systems including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, electrical, carpentry, painting, wall coverings, fixtures, fittings, and preventive maintenance practices.
- Previous experience within a hotel, resort, or hospitality environment is highly desirable.
- Experience managing preventive maintenance programs, room refurbishment projects, and maintenance teams.
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, quality assurance standards, and risk management practices.
- Strong leadership, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze maintenance trends and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and computerized maintenance management systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong guest-centric approach.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- Must have working rights in Fiji.
