Job Summary
The Sr. React Engineer is a front-end specialist who leads the design and development of modern, responsive, and accessible user experiences for mSupply's web applications using React and Next.js. Working alongside backend .NET engineers, designers, and Product Owners, this engineer owns the React/Next.js/TypeScript front-end architecture, establishes UI engineering standards, and mentors other engineers. The role consumes C#/.NET Web APIs hosted on Microsoft Azure and partners closely with full-stack peers to deliver end-to-end features. This is a fully remote position based in the United States.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of front-end features using React, Next.js, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript tooling
- Architect and evolve Next.js applications leveraging the App Router, server components, server actions, route handlers, middleware, and ISR/SSR/SSG rendering strategies
- Define and evolve front-end architecture, component libraries, design systems, and reusable patterns across applications
- Consume and integrate with ASP.NET Web APIs and Azure-hosted services built by backend engineering peers
- Build responsive, performant, and accessible (WCAG 2.1 AA) user interfaces that work across modern browsers and devices
- Collaborate with UX designers to translate wireframes, prototypes, and design tokens into production-quality React/Next.js components
- Establish and uphold front-end coding standards, testing strategies, and performance budgets (Core Web Vitals, bundle size, caching)
- Implement and maintain client- and server-side state management, routing, authentication (e.g., MSAL / Entra ID), and API integration patterns
- Lead code reviews, provide mentorship, and coach engineers on front-end best practices and modern React/Next.js patterns
- Partner with Solution Architects to ensure the front-end aligns with overall system architecture and security standards
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps for building, testing, and deploying Next.js applications to Azure (App Service, Static Web Apps, or containerized hosting)
- Investigate and resolve complex UI bugs, performance issues, and accessibility findings
- Stay current with the React and Next.js ecosystems and advocate for adoption where it benefits the team
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of professional front-end software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years focused on React
- 2+ years of hands-on production experience building applications with Next.js (App Router preferred)
- Expert-level proficiency with React, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES2020+)
- Deep experience with React patterns including hooks, context, suspense, server components, and performance optimization
- Strong understanding of Next.js rendering strategies (SSR, SSG, ISR, RSC), caching, routing, data fetching, and middleware
- Hands-on experience with modern state-management and data-fetching approaches (React Query/TanStack Query, Redux Toolkit, Zustand, SWR, or similar)
- Strong experience building and maintaining shared component libraries and design systems (e.g., Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui, MUI, or similar)
- Experience consuming RESTful Web APIs built with ASP.NET / C# and deployed to Microsoft Azure
- Working knowledge of authentication patterns for Azure/Microsoft ecosystems (MSAL, NextAuth/Auth.js, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, Entra ID)
- Proficiency with front-end testing tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, or Cypress
- Demonstrated understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1), responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines for deploying Next.js applications (Azure App Service, Static Web Apps, or containers)
- Proven track record of mentoring engineers and leading front-end initiatives to successful delivery
- Preferred: hands-on experience leading AI-first development using Claude Code or similar AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate front-end delivery, improve code quality, and establish team practices for effective AI-assisted engineering
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, product-minded approach
- Experience in an Agile/Scrum environment with distributed and/or offshore teams is preferred
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Primarily sedentary work, requiring extended periods of sitting while working at a computer
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, via phone, and through virtual collaboration tools
- Occasional standing, walking, and movement during meetings, site visits, or travel
- Ability to lift and carry light materials (up to 15 lbs) occasionally, such as a laptop or presentation materials
- Ability to travel periodically for business needs, including visiting distribution centers, suppliers, stores, or industry events
- Office environment includes standard business equipment such as computers, phones, and conferencing tools
