Job Summary:
The Network Engineer (Office Connect) within Global Connectivity Solutions (GCS) supports vulnerability remediation, lifecycle management, firmware upgrades, and production deployments across enterprise campus network environments. The role executes technical activities involving Cisco Catalyst switching, Cisco wireless infrastructure, Meraki switching, Meraki wireless, and associated network management platforms.
The position works with Senior Engineers, Network Engineering, Network Operations, Information Security, Workplace Technology, Change Management, Outage Management, local office teams, and vendors to deliver upgrades safely, troubleshoot implementation issues, and maintain compliance with approved software and operational standards.
Job Description
- Execute vulnerability remediation, firmware upgrades, and software maintenance across Cisco switching, Cisco wireless, Meraki switching, and Meraki wireless platforms.
- Perform software image validation, pre-upgrade assessments, compatibility checks, post-upgrade verification, and campus device health checks.
- Support software lifecycle management and platform currency for Cisco Catalyst 9000 Series switches, Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controllers, Cisco access points, Meraki MS switches, and Meraki MR access points.
- Assist with device onboarding, configuration validation, testing, migration, hardware refresh, and deployment activities across office locations.
- Support Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies including VLANs, trunking, STP/RSTP/MST, EtherChannel/LACP, HSRP/VRRP, ACLs, DHCP Snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, port security, and basic routing.
- Troubleshoot switching issues involving connectivity, VLAN assignment, interfaces, trunks, spanning tree, port channels, routing adjacencies, authentication, software defects, and firmware upgrades.
- Support wireless operations including SSID validation, access point onboarding, controller and AP upgrades, RF troubleshooting, coverage verification, roaming analysis, and wireless client connectivity.
- Apply knowledge of 802.11ac, 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), and Wi-Fi 6E during compatibility validation, implementation, and troubleshooting activities.
- Use Cisco Catalyst Center, Catalyst Center Assurance, Meraki Dashboard, wireless analytics, monitoring tools, logs, and packet captures for visibility, compliance tracking, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in testing and validation of integrations with identity, security, endpoint, print, and workplace technology services.
- Prepare implementation procedures, rollback steps, test plans, validation documents, change tasks, technical runbooks, and implementation records.
- Participate in CAB preparation and support Senior Engineers during technical change reviews when required.
- Execute approved changes during maintenance windows and provide timely implementation updates to technical leads and stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot issues arising from firmware upgrades, software changes, hardware replacements, or configuration modifications.
- Escalate complex issues with accurate diagnostics, logs, packet captures, impact details, and actions completed.
- Participate in outage calls, incident recovery, technical investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution validation.
- Support access point refreshes, switch migrations, office network upgrades, remediation waves, and campus modernization initiatives.
- Maintain network inventory, software versions, vulnerability status, compliance evidence, upgrade history, and deployment outcomes.
- Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, compliance validation, inventory improvement, monitoring, and reporting.
Knowledge & Competencies Required:
- Hands-on knowledge of Cisco Catalyst 9000 Series switching and enterprise Layer 2/Layer 3 campus technologies.
- Working knowledge of Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controllers, Cisco access points, wireless operations, and firmware lifecycle activities.
- Working knowledge of Meraki MS Switching, Meraki MR Wireless, Meraki Dashboard administration, device onboarding, firmware management, wireless health, and client analytics.
- Understanding of VLANs, trunking, STP/RSTP/MST, EtherChannel/LACP, HSRP/VRRP, ACLs, DHCP Snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, port security, and basic routing.
- Understanding of wireless fundamentals including RF behavior, channel utilization, interference, coverage, capacity, roaming, authentication, and client troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of Wi-Fi standards including 802.11ac, 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), and Wi-Fi 6E.
- Experience using Cisco Catalyst Center, Catalyst Center Assurance, Meraki Dashboard, monitoring tools, logs, and packet captures.
- Experience supporting vulnerability remediation, firmware upgrades, configuration changes, hardware refreshes, or campus modernization activities.
- Strong troubleshooting discipline and ability to collect, interpret, and document technical evidence.
- Working knowledge of Change, Incident, Problem, Risk, and Release Management practices.
- Good implementation planning, validation, documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of network monitoring, observability, analytics, and automation platforms.
- Basic scripting or automation knowledge using APIs, Python, Ansible, Catalyst Center, or Meraki APIs is desirable.
- Strong ownership, attention to detail, compliance focus, and continuous improvement mindset.
- Willingness to work in a global support model, including rotational shifts and support across multiple time zones.
- Flexibility to support maintenance, deployments, upgrades, remediation, and incident recovery outside regular business hours when required.
- Ready to travel when required and collaborate with globally distributed teams, vendors, service providers, and stakeholders.
Job Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline
Experience:
Minimum of 3-6 years of experience in enterprise campus network engineering, switching, wireless, or related network technology support.
Certification Requirements:
CCNA preferred. Cisco Wireless, Meraki ECMS, Catalyst Center, and ITIL v4 Foundation certifications are value adds.
