Salesforce Developer & Administrator

About the Role

StrongSteps Behavioral Health Foundation is seeking a skilled Salesforce Developer & Administrator — Nonprofit Systems to lead the development, configuration, implementation, and ongoing management of our Salesforce environment.

This is a hands-on technical role for someone who can take organizational and program requirements and turn them into secure, functional, scalable Salesforce solutions. StrongSteps is a growing nonprofit organization with multiple community programs and operational needs, and Salesforce is being developed as a central system for managing program applications, participants, families, community partners, inventory, referrals, workflows, reporting, and other organizational operations.

This is not primarily a data-entry or basic Salesforce administration position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable building Salesforce solutions from the ground up, improving systems that are already under development, troubleshooting complex issues, and helping StrongSteps establish a long-term Salesforce architecture that can grow with the organization.

The Salesforce Developer & Administrator will work closely with organizational leadership to understand how each StrongSteps program operates and translate those processes into effective Salesforce systems.

The person in this position will have significant responsibility for the design and continued development of our Salesforce environment, including custom objects, Salesforce Flow, Experience Cloud portals, security and permissions, integrations, reporting, data management, and automation.

What You'll Do

• Design, configure, build, test, deploy, document, and maintain the StrongSteps Salesforce environment.

• Evaluate existing Salesforce configurations and recommend improvements to architecture, automation, security, usability, and scalability.

• Build custom objects, fields, relationships, record types, page layouts, Lightning pages, validation rules, formulas, and other Salesforce configurations.

• Design and maintain Salesforce data models that support multiple nonprofit programs and organizational functions.

• Build advanced Salesforce Flows, including Screen Flows, record-triggered flows, scheduled automation, decisions, assignments, loops, record creation and updates, notifications, and approval-related processes.

• Build and maintain Salesforce Experience Cloud sites and portals for families, program participants, community organizations, nonprofit partners, and other external users.

• Develop secure public-facing Salesforce applications and forms that allow individuals to submit information without requiring a Salesforce account.

• Configure and maintain appropriate Salesforce security, including profiles, permission sets, sharing rules, organization-wide defaults, field-level security, Experience Cloud permissions, and guest-user access.

• Ensure public and external Salesforce experiences are designed to protect confidential participant and family information.

• Build and maintain Salesforce systems supporting StrongSteps programs, including Holiday for Hope, Hope in Every Book, behavioral health and community support initiatives, community education programs, peer-based programs, outreach initiatives, and future programs.

• Develop workflows for family and participant applications, eligibility review, enrollment, program status, approvals, communications, fulfillment, inventory, referrals, community partners, and program completion.

• Build systems for managing child and household information for applicable family-support programs while maintaining appropriate privacy and security controls.

• Develop inventory and fulfillment systems for programs involving books, donated items, supplies, or other distributed resources.

• Build reporting systems that allow StrongSteps leadership to monitor program participation, outcomes, applications, inventory, operations, community reach, and organizational performance.

• Create Salesforce reports, dashboards, list views, and other tools that provide staff and leadership with useful real-time information.

• Develop and maintain integrations between Salesforce and third-party platforms used by StrongSteps.

• Support integrations involving accounting, payment processing, fundraising, shipping, communications, forms, and other nonprofit technology platforms.

• Work with APIs, middleware, webhooks, or other integration technologies when appropriate.

• Troubleshoot Salesforce Flow errors, Experience Cloud issues, permissions problems, automation failures, data issues, integrations, and other technical problems.

• Use declarative Salesforce functionality whenever appropriate while recognizing when custom development is necessary.

• Develop or maintain Apex, Lightning Web Components, API integrations, or other custom Salesforce functionality when requirements cannot reasonably be accomplished using standard configuration and Flow.

• Test new Salesforce functionality before deployment and help establish appropriate development, testing, and change-management practices.

• Maintain clear technical documentation for Salesforce objects, automations, integrations, permissions, workflows, and major system configurations.

• Help establish data-quality standards and processes that maintain accurate and reliable organizational information.

• Assist with data imports, data cleanup, duplicate management, migration, and ongoing data integrity as needed.

• Develop solutions that reduce manual administrative work and allow staff to spend more time supporting StrongSteps programs and the community.

• Train staff members on Salesforce functionality and develop practical documentation or instructions for internal users.

• Provide ongoing Salesforce technical support and troubleshoot issues reported by staff.

• Work directly with StrongSteps leadership and program staff to gather requirements and translate operational needs into technical solutions.

• Recommend Salesforce best practices and identify opportunities to improve organizational efficiency through automation and technology.

• Help StrongSteps establish a scalable Salesforce architecture capable of supporting additional programs, staff members, partners, locations, and services as the organization grows.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Salesforce professional who enjoys building systems and solving problems. We are looking for someone who can independently evaluate a business or program process, understand what needs to happen, and determine how to build an effective solution in Salesforce.

Candidates should be comfortable working in an environment where Salesforce is actively being developed. Some systems already exist and will need to be reviewed, completed, improved, or redesigned, while additional systems will need to be built.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working directly with organizational leadership and explaining technical concepts in clear, understandable language.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated hands-on experience administering, configuring, and building Salesforce environments.

• Strong Salesforce Flow experience, including Screen Flows and record-triggered automation.

• Experience creating custom objects, fields, relationships, formulas, validation rules, record types, page layouts, and Lightning pages.

• Experience designing Salesforce data models and translating organizational requirements into Salesforce architecture.

• Experience with Salesforce Experience Cloud is strongly preferred.

• Experience developing public-facing or external-user Salesforce experiences is strongly preferred.

• Strong understanding of Salesforce security, including profiles, permission sets, sharing, organization-wide defaults, field-level security, and external or guest-user access.

• Ability to independently diagnose and troubleshoot Salesforce configuration, automation, permissions, and data issues.

• Experience with Salesforce reports and dashboards.

• Experience integrating Salesforce with third-party applications using APIs, middleware, webhooks, or integration platforms is preferred.

• Experience with Apex, Lightning Web Components, SOQL, Salesforce APIs, or other Salesforce development technologies is preferred.

• Experience with Salesforce nonprofit implementations, Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP), Nonprofit Cloud, or nonprofit organizations is preferred.

• Experience working with sensitive or confidential participant, client, family, healthcare, human-services, or nonprofit data is beneficial.

• Strong attention to data security, privacy, accuracy, and system reliability.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to document technical configurations and processes clearly.

• Ability to manage multiple Salesforce projects and priorities.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with organizational leadership and program staff.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Salesforce certifications such as Salesforce Certified Administrator, Platform App Builder, Platform Developer, Experience Cloud Consultant, or related credentials are preferred. However, demonstrated hands-on ability to successfully design and build Salesforce solutions is more important to us than certifications alone.

Programs should have clear workflows from initial application or referral through enrollment, service delivery, fulfillment, completion, and reporting. Staff should be able to find the information they need without relying on disconnected spreadsheets or unnecessary manual processes. Leadership should have reliable reporting and visibility into organizational and program activity.

Public-facing applications and partner portals should be easy to use while maintaining appropriate security and privacy protections.

Most importantly, Salesforce should become a scalable operational platform that supports StrongSteps today while providing the foundation needed for future programs and organizational growth.
