We are seeking a senior backend software engineer to help evolve a large-scale software ecosystem built for long-term sustainability. This role is for engineers who care deeply about architecture, domain modeling, software quality, and engineering culture.

You will help teams evolve systems using Domain-Driven Design principles and collaborative discovery techniques. You will influence subsystem boundaries, integration strategies, testing approaches, and overall software sustainability across multiple teams.

What you will do

  • Lead design and evolution of back-office systems on the Java platform
  • Facilitate or actively contribute to collaborative modeling sessions and architecture discussions
  • Drive clear bounded contexts and subsystem responsibilities
  • Design integrations using APIs, messaging and domain events
  • Guide teams toward maintainable and loosely coupled architectures
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and daily collaboration
  • Contribute to engineering standards, testing strategies, maintainability and software development process improvement
  • Drive thoughtful refactoring and focused modernization initiatives

Desired skills and experience

  • Strong professional experience building complex back-office systems in Java for at least 5 years
  • Deep understanding of software design and Domain-Driven Design concepts
  • Experience designing modular or distributed systems with clear boundaries
  • Strong understanding of:
  • relational databases and SQL
  • REST/SOAP integration
  • messaging systems and event-driven architecture
  • transactional consistency and integration patterns
  • Strong knowledge of modern Java/JEE frameworks and backend application architecture
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures and platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenShift) is a strong plus
  • Strong testing mindset covering unit, integration, and subsystem-level testing
  • Experience working with static analysis and maintainability tooling
  • Experience in mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction
