Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Azure Database Engineer to support Minnesota's Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS) modernization initiative. This project involves consolidating data from 87 county databases into a centralized Azure Data Lakehouse to support a new statewide child welfare platform.

The Azure Database Engineer will design, develop, implement, and maintain Azure databases and data lakes while ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performing data solutions. This role will also collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor other Database Engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Azure relational and non-relational databases.
  • Build and support Azure Data Lakes and Data Lakehouse solutions.
  • Develop data transformation and data loading processes.
  • Optimize database performance, security, and data access.
  • Implement backup, disaster recovery, and CI/CD solutions.
  • Monitor Azure database environments and maintain technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience designing and implementing Azure databases and Data Lakes.
  • Strong experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Oracle, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Azure monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and security (RBAC, encryption, network security).
  • Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, indexing, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and mentoring skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instances and Elastic Pools.
  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse Administration and Teradata.
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, ARM Templates, Azure CLI/PowerShell, SQL Analytics, and Query Performance Insight.

Interview Process

Interviews will be conducted by the State via Microsoft Teams. Candidates must be available for interviews as requested by the State.
