Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

To be a successful Senior Software Engineer -Java you should have experience with:
- Extensive hands-on development experience with Core Java (Java 17+), Spring Framework, and Spring Boot.
- Strong expertise in designing and developing Microservices-based architectures using Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate, and Spring Data.
- Proven experience in building and integrating RESTful APIs, Web Services, and event-driven applications.
- Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Design (OOD) principles, design patterns, and software engineering best practices.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins, and source control tools such as Git and Bitbucket.
- Experience leading technical design discussions, code reviews, and mentoring development teams.
- Strong knowledge of application performance tuning, scalability, security, and resiliency patterns.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments with responsibility for end-to-end feature delivery.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and stakeholder communication skills.

Additional relevant skills given below are highly valued:
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Barclays Cloud Platform (BCP).
- Hands-on experience with messaging and streaming technologies such as Kafka and IBM MQ.
- Exposure to containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
- Experience with Liquibase or similar database schema/version management tools.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and domain-driven design principles.
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and delivery tools such as Jira.
- Experience in the banking, wealth management, or financial services domain.
- Exposure to observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or AppDynamics.
- Ability to drive technical innovation, modernization initiatives, and engineering best practices across teams.
