About this Role:

Wells Fargo is Seeking a Software Engineering Manager.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of individual contributor engineer roles with low to moderate complexity and less experienced managers who are responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Engage with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture to enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example, cloud readiness, application modernization and data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to make decisions and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement culture
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with low to moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate and consult with the Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for technology engineering including career development and performance management for engineers and managers on the team
  • Hire, mentor and guide talent development of direct reports to build the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for the supported product areas/products

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 2+ years of Leadership experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years leading engineering teams.

  • Experience driving developer experience (DevEx) initiatives at enterprise scale.
  • Experience managing engineering portfolios, budgets, and strategic roadmaps

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and develop high-performing engineering teams responsible for developer tools, IDE platforms, engineering frameworks, reusable utilities, configuration services, and automation platforms.
  • Establish a strong engineering culture focused on innovation, quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor engineers, technical leads, and engineering managers while fostering career development and technical growth.
  • Drive organizational strategy, workforce planning, and execution against business priorities.

Developer Tools & Environments

  • Own the lifecycle management of enterprise development tools including onboarding, upgrades, vulnerability remediation, rationalization, and retirement.
  • Lead development of self-service capabilities for tool provisioning, developer onboarding, access management, and environment setup.
  • Drive modernization of developer workstations, cloud-based development environments, and IDE ecosystems.
  • Partner with security, risk, and compliance organizations to ensure approved tool usage and governance adherence.
  • Improve developer productivity through automation, simplification, and AI-powered developer experiences. 

Frameworks & Utilities

  • Lead development and adoption of enterprise frameworks for Java, .NET, UI, Python, and future technology stacks.
  • Drive design and delivery of reusable engineering utilities, platform services, and accelerators used across application teams.
  • Own enterprise configuration services, common runtime capabilities, shared libraries, and platform standards.
  • Establish framework governance, lifecycle management, upgrade automation, and adoption strategies.
  • Ensure frameworks incorporate security, reliability, observability, performance, and compliance requirements by design. 

Platform Engineering & Architecture

  • Define technical strategy, reference architectures, and engineering standards.
  • Partner with enterprise architecture and product management teams to create long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Drive cloud-native, API-first, and AI-first engineering practices.
  • Scale platform services to support thousands of engineers and enterprise applications.
  • Lead architecture reviews and technology decisions that balance innovation, risk, and operational excellence.

AI & Automation

  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted software engineering capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities to automate software delivery, tool governance, framework upgrades, vulnerability remediation, and developer onboarding.
  • Champion agentic engineering and self-service platform experiences.
  • Measure and improve developer productivity through automation and AI-driven insights.

Operational Excellence

  • Define and track OKRs, KPIs, SLAs, and operational health metrics.
  • Ensure platform reliability, scalability, availability, and security.
  • Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Manage technology debt, platform modernization, and continuous improvement programs.

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, Security, Risk, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, and application development teams.
  • Influence senior leadership and drive alignment across multiple organizations.
  • Present strategy, roadmaps, business cases, and operational outcomes to executive leadership.
