Business Context
TD Technology builds and supports the platforms that power critical banking capabilities across the enterprise. Within TD Technology, the Treasury Analytics Group (TAG) supports Treasury and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) by engineering the systems, data platforms, and infrastructure used to measure, monitor, and manage liquidity and market risk across Canada and the U.S. TAG works closely with TBSM partners across Investments, Liquidity Risk Management, Non-Trading Market Risk, and Cash Management. As liquidity reporting and risk platforms continue to evolve, this role offers the opportunity to build and modernize highly visible, business-critical technology in a regulated banking environment. We operate with strong ownership, engineering discipline, and a bias toward automation. We are looking for a senior hands-on engineer who can build infrastructure, automate delivery, solve complex technical problems, and help run resilient platforms at scale.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Platform Engineer responsible for the design, installation, automation, administration, performance tuning, security, and operational support of enterprise database platforms across cloud and on-premises environments.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on technical expert with extensive experience deploying and supporting Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, and Apache Cassandra. This role requires strong cloud infrastructure knowledge, DevOps experience, automation expertise, and the ability to build and maintain highly available, secure, and resilient database environments supporting mission-critical applications.
This is an engineering-focused role. The successful candidate will be expected to design, build, script, automate, and support database platforms throughout their lifecycle rather than perform only operational database administration activities.
REQUIRED
- Microsoft SQL Server installation, configuration, administration, upgrades, patching, and performance tuning.
- Experience building SQL Server environments from scratch across Development, QA, Production, and Disaster Recovery environments.
- SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Replication, Backup, and Recovery.
- Microsoft Azure experience, including Azure Virtual Machines, Storage, Networking, Monitoring, Backup, and Disaster Recovery.
Windows Server administration.
- PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform, Ansible, SaltStack, or similar technologies.
- CI/CD experience using Azure DevOps, GitHub, or Jenkins.
- Performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring, and production support.
- Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise applications.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across SQL Server, Windows, networking, and infrastructure components.
DEVOPS & AUTOMATION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop automated installation and configuration scripts for SQL Server environments.
- Build Infrastructure-as-Code solutions to deploy and manage database infrastructure.
- Create standardized database deployment templates and automation frameworks.
Develop CI/CD deployment pipelines for database releases and platform changes.
- Automate database provisioning, patching, upgrades, backups, health checks, monitoring, and disaster recovery validation.
- Maintain source-controlled deployment scripts and configuration repositories.
- Partner with Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Application teams to deliver automated platform solutions.
