Introduction

As an Data Engineer Intern at Temasek, you will support the development of data foundations that enable AI solutions and agentic systems to deliver meaningful business value. Working alongside data engineers, AI engineers, and business stakeholders, you will gain hands-on experience in preparing, organizing, and maintaining data that powers AI applications across the organization.

This role offers exposure to both data engineering and AI systems, providing opportunities to contribute to data pipelines, data quality initiatives, and data preparation activities that help AI systems access and utilize information effectively. You will work with a variety of data sources, including structured data such as financial and operational datasets, as well as unstructured content such as reports, research materials, and business documents.

Through real-world projects, you will learn how data is collected, transformed, and made AI-ready, while developing an understanding of how high-quality data supports trustworthy and effective AI solutions in a global investment environment. This internship is ideal for individuals who are curious about data, AI technologies, and building digital solutions that drive business impact.

Responsibilities

• Support the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines using cloud and big data technologies under the guidance of experienced data engineers and architects.

• Assist in monitoring, scheduling, and troubleshooting data processing jobs in cloud-based environments

• Participate in the testing, deployment, and validation of data applications to ensure data quality and reliability.

• Collaborate with business and technical teams to gather requirements and develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations that support business decision-making.

• Support data quality, documentation, and process improvement initiatives to help make data more accessible and AI-ready.

• Work with structured and unstructured datasets to gain hands-on experience in data engineering and AI-driven data solutions.

• Contribute to team discussions, project planning, and knowledge-sharing activities while learning best practices in data and AI engineering.

Requirements

  • Able to commit full-time for a minimum of 20 weeks. Interns who are able to commit to a full-time (5 days/week) or a minimum of part-time (4 days/week) internship is strongly preferred.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science and Computer Engineering
  • Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Data processing experience in SQL. Knowledge of database principles
  • Good grasp of key computer science and software engineering concepts including but not limited to software design patterns, application security, performance, TDD
  • Strong interest in learning new data systems and technologies.
  • Experience in cloud technologies like AWS is preferred
  • Experience with big data frameworks like airflow, spark is desired
  • Experience with CI/CD practices and systems (e.g. git, bitbucket) are a plus
  • Experience with data visualizations tools like Tableau, Qlik advantageous
