Job Overview & Responsibilities
Mythics is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Technical Writer to support one of our defense consulting programs. The Technical Writer will develop, edit, and maintain technical, operational, and program documentation that supports technology implementations, cybersecurity compliance, cloud modernization, and enterprise IT initiatives. This individual will work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, cybersecurity professionals, and government stakeholders to produce clear, accurate, and compliant documentation.
The ideal candidate has experience supporting government contracts and understands the documentation standards required for federal agencies, including NIST, RMF, FedRAMP, and other compliance frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation for IT consulting engagements.
Create system documentation, implementation guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), user guides, administrator guides, and training materials.
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaborate with project managers, solution architects, cloud engineers, cybersecurity professionals, and business analysts to gather technical information.
Develop and maintain project documentation, including:
- System Design Documents (SDDs)
- Architecture Diagrams
- Configuration Guides
- Installation Guides
- Operations & Maintenance Manuals
- Knowledge Base Articles
- Release Notes
- Process Documentation
Support proposal efforts by contributing technical content, staffing descriptions, management plans, and past performance documentation.
Assist cybersecurity teams with documentation supporting RMF, NIST, FedRAMP, CMMC, or ATO initiatives, including:
- System Security Plans (SSPs)
- Policies and Procedures
- Security Control Narratives
- POA&Ms
Configuration Management documentation
Ensure documentation complies with client standards, organizational templates, branding guidelines, and contractual requirements.
Conduct document reviews for quality, consistency, grammar, formatting, and technical accuracy.
Maintain document repositories and version control using collaboration platforms such as SharePoint, Confluence, or Microsoft Teams.
Support knowledge management initiatives by organizing and maintaining reusable documentation assets.
Coordinate document reviews and approvals with internal stakeholders and government customers.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communications, Journalism, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
3+ years of technical writing experience supporting IT, software, cloud, or cybersecurity projects.
Experience supporting federal, DoD, or state/local government programs.
Excellent written, verbal, editing, and proofreading skills.
Experience developing documentation from interviews with subject matter experts.
Strong understanding of document lifecycle management and version control.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).
Experience with SharePoint, Confluence, Adobe Acrobat, or similar collaboration/document management platforms.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting federal government contractors or system integrators.
Oracle EPM experience
Familiarity with:
- NIST 800-53
- RMF
- FedRAMP
- CMMC
- FISMA
- DoD cybersecurity documentation
Experience documenting cloud environments such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
Knowledge of Agile or Scrum software development methodologies.
Experience supporting software implementation or systems integration projects.
Familiarity with diagramming tools such as Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, or Draw.io.
