Job Description
The Data Science & Strategy Team at Birch Hill is currently recruiting Summer Analysts for a four-month internship beginning in May 2027. The internship is open to students graduating in 2028.
The internship offers students the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects. Successful candidates will utilize a variety of tools and skillsets to solve problems and to support the strategic objectives of Birch Hill’s portfolio companies. Students will work with the team to identify areas of improvement within processes and systems and use analytical skills to produce high-quality analyses. They will also support implementation of their analyses, including working directly with investment professionals and senior executives.
Location: Toronto, Canada (in person)

The Data Science & Strategy Team focuses on creating value for our companies by enabling data-driven decision making through advanced analytics and AI. We lead a wide array of projects that support key components of each company’s competitive strategy. We are highly analytical with diverse backgrounds in consulting, engineering, math, and science. Our team is growing quickly, and we are looking for motivated, intelligent, curious candidates who are interested in data, business strategy, and solving complex problems.
Informed by Birch Hill’s investment premise, we partner with portfolio companies as not only technical leaders, but also strategic leaders. Our data infrastructure playbook uses best-in-class methods in data engineering, data modelling, and dashboard design to provide our portfolio companies and investment teams with timely and accurate information for measuring success. Past strategy projects include, but are not limited to, market mapping, customer lifetime value, Five Forces analysis, sales enablement, digital marketing, constructing supply and demand curves, work- or process-flow studies, custom-built tools and logistics optimization.
We also support Birch Hill’s sourcing and due diligence efforts regarding potential investments including assessing and screening companies using alternative data sources, optimizing information flow around our deal pipeline, and completing market mapping and customer analytics to inform the investment thesis.
Salary Range
Compensation is $6,000 CAD per month plus a discretionary bonus.

Qualifications
- Enrolled in a program in business, sciences, math, statistics and/or engineering.
- Ability to analytically approach and solve broad and challenging problems.
- Curiosity, a desire to be challenged, and the aspiration to continually learn.
- Strong communications skills to articulate complex analyses clearly to a variety of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data manipulation languages like SQL or Python.
- Relevant work experience in data analytics, consulting, or finance is an asset.
- Interest in using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate data work, automate repetitive tasks, and improve analytical productivity.
- Previous experience with databases, business intelligence tools, ETL pipelines, and/or machine learning systems is an asset.
