Torch Technologies is seeking a Mid Level Technical Writer (TMDE Sustainment) to join a team supporting the U.S. Army’s Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) mission. This role is ideal for someone who can turn complex calibration, engineering, and sustainment data into clear, accurate, Soldier ready documentation and who understands the technical data standards the Army relies on, including MIL STD 40051 2D Change 1. This position supports the TMDE Sustainment mission.

As a Mid Level Technical Writer (TMDE Sustainment), your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and revise TMDE technical manuals, calibration procedures, SOPs, and sustainment documentation.
  • Build structured technical content using XML, supporting digital pubs, data modules, and configuration controlled documentation.
  • Apply MIL STD 40051 2D requirements for Army technical manual development, formatting, and XML schema compliance.
  • Translate engineering drawings, SMR codes, provisioning data, and maintenance procedures into clear, usable content.
  • Incorporate medical related TMDE requirements in accordance with AR 40 501D when applicable to medical calibration standards.
  • Create drawing trees, provisioning tables, and technical data packages supporting TMDE lifecycle sustainment.
  • Collaborate with engineers, logisticians, and TMDE SMEs to validate accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with AR 750 43, AR 700 4, AR 25 50, MIL STD 38784, and DA Pam documentation standards.
  • Support obsolescence analysis and configuration updates.

Required Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor's Degree in an applicable technical field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of technical writing experience in Army, DoW, engineering, or sustainment environments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, calibration requirements, NIIN/PN datasets, and SMR codes.
  • Experience producing structured technical documentation using XML, SGML, or IETM compatible authoring tools.
  • Familiarity with Army maintenance programs, including:
  • AR 750 1 (Army Materiel Maintenance Policy)
  • DA PAM 750 8 (The Army Maintenance Management System – TAMMS)
  • AR 750 43 (Army TMDE Program)
  • AR 700 4 (Logistics Supportability)
  • DA PAM 738 751 (Equipment Maintenance & Inspection)
  • Strong writing, editing, and document structuring skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • TMDE or calibration lab experience
  • Familiarity with LMP, AESIP, provisioning processes, or Army logistics data
  • Understanding of MATCAT, RICC, SMR, and Army supply classification
  • Prior military or contractor experience supporting Army sustainment
