Full description

The Data Engineer ETL Developer is an intermediate-level position responsible for the design, development, and implementation of robust and scalable data integration solutions. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Oracle Ledger program. This role is a core part of the Technology team, focusing on building and maintaining the firm's critical data pipelines using the Ab Initio platform. The overall objective is to contribute to high-quality data systems analysis and programming activities that support our strategic financial data objectives.  

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, resilient, and scalable ETL processes using the Ab Initio suite of products (GDE, Co>Operating System, EME)
  • Partner with business, data governance, risk, and technology teams to implement and enhance enterprise Data Quality, Data Governance, Metadata Management, and Data Lineage solutions.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of Data Quality controls, business rules, exception management processes, and remediation activities across critical data assets.
  • Translate business requirements from the Oracle Ledger program into technical specifications for ETL jobs and data models.
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and loading across various database platforms.
  • Create and manage metadata within the Ab Initio Enterprise Meta>Environment (EME), ensuring proper version control and adherence to development standards for the program.
  • Support end-to-end data lineage capture, validation, traceability, metadata maintenance, and impact analysis across enterprise data flows.
  • Analyze complex business and system processes to identify Data Quality risks and implement sustainable remediation solutions.
  • Develop standards, governance processes, and reporting mechanisms to improve Data Quality monitoring and data management effectiveness.
  • Drive automation and technology enhancements that improve Data Quality controls, lineage visibility, metadata management, and governance reporting.
  • Provide subject matter expertise during regulatory reviews, audits, risk assessments, and control evaluations related to Data Governance and Data Quality.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of business, architecture, applications, data platforms, and infrastructure integrate to accomplish business goals.
  • Develop Unix/Linux shell scripts for job automation, scheduling, and file manipulation related to the data transformation process.
  • Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of ETL and Ab Initio to analyze complex data-related problems and recommend efficient solutions.
  • Collaborate with data architects, business analysts, and other technology groups to ensure solutions are aligned with enterprise standards and business needs.
  • Serve as an advisor or coach to new or lower-level analysts, sharing expertise in Ab Initio and data integration best practices.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets. This includes driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations related to data handling, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Applications Development, Data Quality, Data Governance, Data Management, Metadata Management, or Systems Analysis.
  • Experience implementing enterprise Data Quality controls, business rules, monitoring frameworks, and remediation processes.
  • Strong understanding of Data Governance, Metadata Management, Critical Data Elements (CDEs), Data Lineage, and Data Control frameworks.
  • Experience supporting regulatory, audit, risk, and control management programs within large enterprise environments.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and drive outcomes across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience in data systems analysis and ETL development.
  • Proven, in-depth expertise with the Ab Initio platform (GDE, Co>Operating System, EME) is mandatory.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, Teradata).
  • Solid experience with Unix/Linux environments and shell scripting.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing successful data-centric projects, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling, and ETL best practices.
  • Experience with large-scale data transformation projects and loading data into financial systems (e.g., Oracle Financials, SAP) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and adapt to unexpected changes in requirements.

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range:

$121,200.00 - $181,800.00 In addition to salary, Citi’s offerings may also include, for eligible employees, discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards.
