Responsibilities

  • Accountable for developing and implementing processes and procedures to integrate new nodes, links and services in the Core network of MTN Cameroon.
  • Responsible for the implementation of all core systems, change requests, testing and reviewing performance before and after every change completion.
  • Responsible for the review of all Core systems’ statistical performance daily with reports shared accordingly.
  • Responsible for supporting local teams & providing guidance on troubleshooting of general & specific network faults
  • Management and coordination of the activities and performance for all 3rd party vendors delivering specific core services for MTN Cameroon such as GTP, SS7 and SMS firewall.
  • Responsible for building the necessary communication requirements among different departments: IN, Billing, Planning & IS teams, etc...
  • Responsible for handling all UAT/PAT testing with project implementors and/or other departments during project acceptance.
  • Ensure all UAT/PAT issues are resolved and documented.
  • Responsible for the resolution of all vulnerabilities on the Core systems.
  • Provide other departments with technical core systems information upon request
  • Responsible for the scheduling of Disaster Recovery Plan activities and documentation thereof in line with MTN Cameroon’s business continuity plan.
  • Responsible for the coordination of vendor service requests per the agreed SLAs
  • Audit of core systems configurations to ensure homogeneity in pooled systems.
  • Promote the use of intelligent tools for Core network service analytics to enhance operational excellence.
  • Participate in core network (Circuit Switch, Packet Switch) area trouble shooting, remote / on-site support and emergency recovery activities.
  • Provide guidance to both planning and project teams in the adoption and implementation of core network solutions.
  • Ability to schedule regular reporting sessions with Managed service partners and 3rd parties and report to upper management on core systems performance.
  • Ensure all Core systems backups are up to date in compliance with BCP guidelines.
  • Support internal and external audit engagements pertaining to core network systems.
  • Involve in the System / Function Verification, trial project and support activities.
  • Provide technical support in the core network (Circuit Switch, Packet Switch) area towards Marketing Unit, Customer service, and other departments.
  • Perform new product lab test, customer environment qualification and integration
  • maintenance of effective PS and CS network elements and implementation of network requirements and specifications to support business strategic, services and products
  • Perform a full system test daily as required by circumstances.
  • Supervision and troubleshooting of core network problems as they arise and ensure it stays fully operational.
  • Developing and maintaining the knowledge base for networking technologies.
  • Procedures and providing consulting support to project team as the need arises.
  • Carry out installations, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on nodes (MSC,
  • MSS, MSC-S Blades, STP, DRA/DEA, SGSN-MME, GGSN/EPG, PCRF, PCEF, MGW, SBG HLR-FE, HSS-FE, EIR-FE, CUDB, IMS, vSBG, DNS.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with other Telcos and partners in the set up and operation of shared mobile services
  • Manage performance of MS (Managed Service) partners and 3rd party vendors in delivering world class core systems’ performance
  • Performing software upgrade in Core nodes (PNF&VNF&CNF)
  • Managing and coordinating roaming configurations and routine tests
  • Prepare reports daily, weekly, and monthly reports for engineers, Management and Group

Qualifications

Education:

  • B.Sc. in Electrical/ Electronic or Telecommunications Engineering

Work Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ work experience in Core CS&PS Network
  • Experience in troubleshooting TCP/IP with protocol analyzers, Wireshark
  • Proven experience in Core CS&PS Network operations
  • Experience in the ZTE, Huawei and Ericsson Core equipment portfolio will be desirable.

Training/Certification

  • ZTE ZXUN EPC/PCRF/NCEE/DRA Product Operation and Maintenance

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of 3GPP, ITU-T and ANSI standards.
  • Circuit and Packet switched communications protocols such as SS7 (including SCCP, TCAP, MAP and CAMEL phases 1 to 4), SCTP (SIGTRAN), Diameter, including ability to design and configure voice, data and messaging flows.
  • Voice SIP / RTP, ISUP and voice convergence technologies, including IMS (including VoLTE and VoWiFi).
  • Online Charging System (OCS) and CAMEL in billing and call control
  • Core Network virtualization and cloudification

Skills:

  • Basic understanding of telecom network key technology is preferred
  • Familiar to 3GPP, ITU-T Standard and Core network and flow is preferred.
  • Voice SIP / RTP, ISUP and voice convergence technologies, including IMS (including VoLTE and VoWiFi)
  • Hands on with sniffers, Wireshark and testing tools advanced mode
  • Experience with mobile networks(2G/3G/4G/5G), international signaling, and international interconnects a strong plus
  • Extensive experience with complex signaling interop within the next generation intelligent networks
