Job Summary: Performs a variety of office functions to facilitate the authorization of patient admissions to SFH, facilitate the financial/billing cycle, and to assist with the smooth operation of the Clinical Care Management Department.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED. College Degree in related field preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

Work Experience: 1 - 2 years related experience including two years in healthcare field and experience working with insurance plans and reimbursement requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel. Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid benefit periods and eligibility. Good oral and written communication skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Coordinates appeals of insurance denials, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care Contracts to improve financial reimbursement. Assists with various office duties: telephone/fax/copier services Communicates with Admitting, Insurance Verification, and Patient Accounting to provide financial/billing information in order to facilitate appropriate discharge planning and timely, correct billing of charges. Verifies Medicare/insurance benefits and available bed days for pre-admission to SNF. Reports findings to appropriate care management staff. Maintains file of all Medicare letters of noncoverage. Reports to the OFMQ on a monthly basis total number of issued HINNs. Establishes database design for new computer applications. Assists with special computer projects for various types of data elements/information tracking. Serves as liaison for nursing staff regarding special projects/daily use. Maintains current information file for various insurance contracts; serves as liaison for staff questions regarding payment issues in order to facilitate resource management and discharge plans. Analyzes reports and initiates corrections to reflect appropriate level of care and reimbursement. Utilizing both Ulticare and IDX, systematically identifies correct patient and current location and routes payor requests for clinical review to appropriate staff.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.

Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
