Job Summary:
Netchex is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. The Senior Database Administrator will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing our databases and ensuring seamless and secure data operations critical to the success of our organization.
As the Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our company's database systems in Microsoft Azure. You will collaborate closely with our development, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure our databases are operating at peak efficiency and aligned with industry best practices. Your expertise in database administration, performance tuning, security, and disaster recovery will be essential in maintaining a robust and reliable data environment.
Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:
The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and mentoring a small team of data professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Database Management and Design: Oversee the entire lifecycle of our development, staging, and production database systems, including design, documentation, installation, configuration, migration, and upgrades, ensuring reliability, integrity, performance, scalability, and high availability where necessary.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective tuning strategies to optimize query performance and overall database efficiency. Design and implement processes and procedures to reduce and eliminate database outages and downtime.
- Scalability and Future Capacity: Work proactively with our development and infrastructure teams to ensure the scalability and future capacity of the database systems, anticipating growth and adjusting configurations accordingly.
- Load Testing and Performance Validation: Collaborate with the QA team to design and execute proper load testing procedures to validate database performance, identify potential issues, and implement improvements as needed.
- Data Standards and Governance: Enforce and adhere to data standards and governance policies to maintain data integrity, consistency, and quality across all database systems. Review and approve all proposed changes to database schema, tables, stored procedures, user-defined functions, SSRS reports, etc.
- Security and Compliance: Implement robust security measures to protect sensitive data, conduct regular security audits, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategies, performing regular data backups and executing recovery plans in case of data loss or system failure.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Respond to and resolve database-related incidents and issues, providing timely and effective support to users and other IT teams.
- Automation: Continuously explore and implement automation solutions to streamline database administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Database Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to database configurations, changes, and standard operating procedures.
- Mentorship and Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to other database professionals, fostering their professional growth and knowledge within the team.
- Research and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in database administration, recommending innovative solutions to enhance the database infrastructure.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Database Management, Computer Science, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Proven work experience as a Database Administrator, with at least 5 years in a senior role.
- Expertise in administering database systems (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, NoSQL databases)
- Advanced knowledge of database performance optimization, indexing, and query tuning techniques.
- Strong understanding of database security principles and experience implementing security measures.
- In-depth knowledge of backup and recovery strategies, as well as disaster recovery planning.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation tools for database administration tasks.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., Microsoft Azure).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex database-related issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Professional certifications in database administration (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus.
- Business Intelligence and Visualization (e.g., Looker, Power BI) experience a plus
- Data transformation, mining, and analytics experience a plus
