Job Description

Snowflake + DBT Principal Engineer / Architect - 4D

Primary Responsibilities

Data Platform Architecture & Strategy

• Define enterprise architecture standards for Snowflake and dbt implementations.
• Lead design and delivery of large-scale cloud data platforms utilizing modern data stack principles.
• Establish enterprise data modeling, transformation, and consumption strategies.
• Define architectural patterns for scalable, secure, and maintainable dbt ecosystems.
• Create enterprise roadmaps for Snowflake and dbt platform adoption and modernization.

Data Engineering Excellence

• Architect complex ELT ecosystems supporting multiple business domains and data products.
• Define standards for modular transformation design, semantic models, metrics layers, and reusable frameworks.
• Establish best practices for incremental processing, dependency management, testing, and lineage.
• Drive enterprise-wide performance, scalability, and cost optimization initiatives.

Governance, Security & Compliance

• Define enterprise governance standards for transformation logic and data products.
• Establish metadata management, lineage, documentation, and catalog integration strategies.
• Define security frameworks and access-control strategies for Snowflake and dbt environments.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, and data governance requirements.

DevOps & Platform Modernization

• Lead implementation of enterprise CI/CD strategies for analytics engineering.
• Define deployment standards, environment promotion models, and release management processes.
• Establish observability and monitoring standards for dbt and Snowflake workloads.
• Drive automation and self-service capabilities across engineering teams.

Leadership & Organizational Impact

• Serve as technical authority for Snowflake and dbt implementations.
• Lead architecture reviews, technology evaluations, and strategic initiatives.
• Mentor senior engineers, architects, and analytics engineers.
• Partner with business leadership and enterprise architecture teams to align technology investments with organizational goals.
• Drive innovation and adoption of modern analytics engineering practices.

Secondary Responsibilities

• Evaluate emerging technologies within the Modern Data Stack ecosystem.
• Support budgeting, platform capacity planning, and licensing decisions.
• Develop organizational standards, training programs, and Centers of Excellence.
• Represent the data engineering organization in executive and governance forums.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of Data Engineering and Data Platform experience.
• 5+ years of Snowflake architecture and implementation experience.
• 4+ years of advanced dbt experience across multiple enterprise projects.
• Deep expertise in analytics engineering and modern data stack architecture.
• Extensive experience with Data Vault, Dimensional Modeling, and Data Product architectures.
• Strong experience with Snowpark, Python, DevOps, and cloud-native platforms.
• Proven experience leading enterprise modernization and migration initiatives.
• Strong understanding of metadata management, governance, lineage, and observability frameworks.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic planning capabilities.
