Site Reliability Engineer/ GitHub Admin

About the role

The Site Reliability Engineer / GitHub / Site Reliability Engineer Administrator owns the day-to-day health, security, and usability of the organization's GitHub environment while applying SRE practices to keep delivery platforms reliable, observable, and automated. This role independently administers GitHub organizations, repositories, and CI/CD with GitHub Actions, drives automation across the software delivery lifecycle, and partners with engineering teams to improve developer experience and enforce security and compliance standards. 

What you'll do

• Administer the GitHub environment, including organizations, teams, repositories, branch protection rules, and permission models. 

• Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, including reusable workflows, self-hosted runners, and environment protection rules. 

• Manage GitHub security capabilities, including secret scanning, code scanning (CodeQL), Dependabot, and audit log monitoring. 

• Enforce repository standards, governance policies, and least-privilege access controls. 

• Automate platform administration and operational workflows using scripting and the GitHub API and CLI. 

• Monitor platform availability and performance against defined SLOs, and tune alerting to reduce noise. 

• Respond to platform and pipeline incidents, lead troubleshooting, and contribute to blameless postmortems. 

• Integrate GitHub with identity providers (SSO/SAML/SCIM) and adjacent tooling such as project management and security scanners. 

• Support migrations to GitHub from other version control systems. 

• Maintain platform documentation, runbooks, and onboarding guides, and advise developers on branching strategies and effective GitHub usage. 

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 

• 4+ years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering roles. 

• Solid hands-on experience administering GitHub (Enterprise Cloud or Server), including organization and permission management. 

• Strong working knowledge of GitHub Actions, including workflow design, secrets handling, and runner management. 

• Supports day-to-day GitHub Copilot rollout for development teams, including onboarding, prompt engineering best practices, and troubleshooting Copilot usage, drawing on GitHub Copilot certification-level skills. 

• Experience with GitHub security features, such as secret scanning, Dependabot, and code scanning. 

• Proficiency scripting against the GitHub API and CLI using Python, Bash, or PowerShell. 

• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, such as Terraform or Ansible. 

• Working knowledge of SRE fundamentals, including SLOs/SLIs, incident management, and postmortems. 

• Experience with containerization (Docker) and at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP). 

• Experience with monitoring and observability tooling, such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk. 

• Experience supporting federal government clients or contracts is a plus. 

• GitHub certifications, such as GitHub Actions or GitHub Administration, are a plus. 

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Public Trust or Security Clearance. 

The salary range for this role is $120,000- $140,000 annually
