Summary

This is a founding design role for someone who owns product design end to end and, above all, ships. You will be the design function for Lux’s next-generation AI-native intelligence platform, responsible for how the product looks, feels, and works, from early problem framing through polished, production-ready interfaces.

You will own the full arc: user and workflow research, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, and a branded, accessible design system that keeps the product coherent as it grows. You will translate complex research data, AI-generated insight, and analytical workflows into interfaces that feel clear and effortless to the executives, researchers, and analysts who use them.

You will report to the CTO and partner closely with engineering, product, and research. Because you are the lead and primary designer for this flagship Lux platform, this is a role defined by autonomy and ownership. You will set the bar rather than wait for it to be set for you, take direction once and carry it through without repeated correction, and run your own priorities and cadence. It is a hands-on role for a designer who wants to own the entire surface of a product, be trusted to execute, and see their work in customers’ hands quickly.

Responsibilities

Product & Experience Design

  • Own end-to-end design for the platform: research, information architecture, user flows, interaction design, and high-fidelity visual design.
  • Turn ambiguous problems and complex data into clear, intuitive interfaces that non-technical users can navigate with confidence.
  • Design AI-native experiences: how users prompt, review, trust, and act on model-generated output, including human-in-the-loop review and personalization.
  • Produce work at the fidelity engineering can build from directly, with the states, edge cases, and specs filled in.

Design System & Craft

  • Build and maintain a branded, accessible design system (components, patterns, tokens, guidelines) that keeps the product consistent as the team and surface area grow.
  • Ensure accessibility is built in, not bolted on, meeting WCAG standards across the product.
  • Establish and hold a high craft bar for visual polish, interaction quality, and consistency.

Ownership & Delivery

  • Run your own design roadmap: manage priorities and cadence against business and user needs, and deliver predictably without close supervision.
  • Internalize feedback and direction the first time, carry it forward across the work, and keep stakeholders unblocked without needing to be chased.
  • Partner with engineering to ship designs faithfully, working web-first and handing off cleanly to a modern React and Tailwind frontend.
  • Use AI-assisted design and prototyping tooling to move quickly from idea to testable artifact.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of product, UX, or interaction design experience, preferably in a SaaS or B2B technology environment, with a portfolio that shows end-to-end ownership of shipped, complex software products.
  • Demonstrated strength across the full stack of design: research, information architecture, interaction, and visual craft, with the range to work at both low and high fidelity.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining a design system used by a real engineering team.
  • A track record of operating as an independent or sole designer: setting your own bar, managing your own priorities, and delivering reliably without close supervision.
  • Strong follow-through: you take direction once and carry it through, rather than requiring the same feedback repeatedly.
  • Fluency in designing for data-dense, workflow-heavy products; experience with AI or analytics products is a strong plus.
  • Fluent enough in how modern web frontends are built (component models, responsive design, design tokens) to hand off work that ships faithfully.
  • Expert with Figma and modern design and prototyping tooling; working knowledge of accessibility standards and how to meet them in practice.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present and justify design decisions to stakeholders at all levels.

Qualities of the Successful Candidate

  • You hold a high bar for craft and take pride in the details, and you do it without being asked twice.
  • You create clarity in ambiguity rather than waiting to be handed it.
  • You love people: how they think, sharing ideas, and working together toward a common goal.
  • You are highly creative, bold, yet practical, and you regularly turn ideas into outcomes that move the product forward.
  • You want to throw yourself completely into building something exciting and larger than yourself.
