Full description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a DevOps Tech Lead Manager based in Mexico.
This is an opportunity to lead a DevOps squad responsible for keeping critical infrastructure reliable, scalable, secure, and ready to support rapid business growth. You will manage a team of 4–8 engineers while remaining hands-on for approximately 40–60% of your time. The role combines people leadership with deep technical involvement across infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, cloud platforms, and cost optimization. You will own delivery, engineering quality, on-call operations, and incident response while helping engineers grow their careers. You will also connect technical priorities to business objectives, balancing delivery speed with security, compliance, and operational risk. Working in a fast-paced fintech environment, you will collaborate closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. This role is ideal for a technically strong DevOps leader who enjoys developing people, solving complex infrastructure challenges, and creating measurable business impact.

Accountabilities
- Lead and develop a DevOps squad of approximately 4–8 engineers across junior to mid-level engineering grades.
- Own team delivery commitments, infrastructure and code quality, on-call operations, and measurable engineering outcomes.
- Remain hands-on for 40–60% of your time, contributing directly to infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, observability, automation, and cloud cost optimization.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, career-development conversations, and structured coaching for team members.
- Hire and onboard new engineers while building a culture of ownership, psychological safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Remove technical, tooling, process, and technical-debt blockers that prevent the team from delivering effectively.
- Own squad-level incidents and post-mortems, ensuring issues are escalated proactively and recurring problems are addressed.
- Connect technical initiatives to business OKRs and KPIs, helping the team understand the broader impact of its work.
- Represent the squad in planning, grooming, cross-team meetings, and strategic discussions.
- Communicate risks, trade-offs, priorities, and challenges clearly and transparently to stakeholders and leadership.
- Balance engineering velocity with security, regulatory, compliance, and operational requirements.
- Champion effective engineering practices, workflow hygiene, and continuous improvement across the team.
- Use metrics such as DORA indicators where appropriate to understand and improve team performance and delivery.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or a closely related field with production ownership.
- Previous experience formally managing a team or informally leading engineers as a technical lead, including mentoring, hiring, or incident-response leadership.
- Demonstrated experience owning delivery outcomes for a team rather than only individual technical tasks.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
- Deep understanding of CI/CD systems and modern software delivery practices, including trunk-based development, feature flags, and incremental rollouts.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, ideally including Fargate, ECS, EC2, RDS/Postgres, ElastiCache, Lambda, SQS, and Kinesis.
- Strong knowledge of observability, including metrics, logs, traces, monitoring, and alerting; Datadog experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, Node.js, or TypeScript.
- Solid understanding of cloud security, secret management, infrastructure security, and compliance requirements.
- Experience running 1:1s, providing structured feedback, conducting performance reviews, and creating career-development plans.
- Ability to hire, onboard, mentor, and develop engineers across different experience levels.
- Strong communication skills in Spanish, with working English proficiency for vendor and partner interactions.
- Ability to communicate difficult news, risks, and trade-offs clearly and constructively.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity, adapting to changing priorities, and establishing effective practices where processes are not yet defined.
- People-first leadership style combined with strong attention to engineering discipline and workflow quality.
- Growth mindset, curiosity, accountability, and commitment to continuous technical and leadership development.
- Familiarity with GCP, including BigQuery and Pub/Sub, is a plus.
- Experience with MongoDB Atlas or other managed data stores is advantageous.
- Exposure to fintech, payments, or regulated environments such as CNBV, SOC 2, or PCI is desirable.
- Experience establishing or improving on-call and incident-response processes is a plus.
- Familiarity with DORA metrics and using them to improve team performance is advantageous.
Benefits
- Opportunity to lead a team responsible for infrastructure supporting financial services and broader financial inclusion across Latin America.
- Hybrid working-manager role, allowing you to continue developing your technical expertise while growing your people-leadership skills.
- High level of ownership over team delivery, technical standards, incident management, and engineering practices.
- Opportunity to work in a high-growth fintech environment at the intersection of infrastructure, engineering, product delivery, and business impact.
- Direct exposure to cloud infrastructure, automation, observability, security, compliance, and modern DevOps practices.
- Significant opportunity to influence engineering culture, team development, and technical strategy.
- Collaborative environment with experienced professionals from product, technology, and high-growth organizations.
- Opportunity to help build and scale a high-performing DevOps function as the organization grows.
