ABOUT THE ROLE & TEAM
Act as the Lead Project Finance Controller (PFC) for the Business Unit, providing financial leadership and governance across the project portfolio. Serve as the primary financial point of contact for all key projects, partnering with business leaders, project managers, and global stakeholders to ensure strong financial performance, compliance, and cost optimisation, where appropriate. Supervise and develop junior PFC team members while driving consistency, best practice, and excellence in project financial management.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Act as the Lead PFC for the Business Unit, providing oversight and direction across all projects.
- Serve as the single point of contact for all project-related financial matters, ensuring timely and accurate responses to financial queries, risks, and escalations.
- Confident application of revenue recognition and cost recognition principles, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, contractual obligations, and company policies.
- Own project financial governance, including forecasting, budgeting, margin analysis, risk identification, and financial performance reporting.
- Provide proactive financial insights to project and other stakeholders to support informed commercial and operational decisions.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor junior Project Finance Controllers, supporting their professional development and technical capability.
- Help deliver structured training and knowledge sharing across the PFC team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders across multiple geographies, functions, and levels of seniority.
- Drive consistency and rigour in financial processes, controls, reporting standards, and project reviews across the Business Unit.
- Support senior leadership with ad-hoc financial analysis and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
ABOUT YOUR SKILLS
- Strong leadership and staff management capability, with proven experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing finance professionals.
- Expert knowledge of revenue recognition, project accounting, and financial governance.
- Strong understanding of cost recognition, project forecasting, margin management, and financial controls.
- Highly logical and analytical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to assess complex situations and identify practical solutions.
- Confident communicator with the ability to present financial information clearly and influence decision-making at all organisational levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex financial concepts into clear and actionable messages.
- Proven ability to manage and influence global stakeholders across diverse cultures, functions, and business environments.
- Strong business partnering skills, with the credibility to challenge constructively and provide trusted financial advice.
- High degree of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, complex project environment while managing multiple priorities.
- 8+ years as an experienced post qualified Finance Project Controller with experience working within large complex matrix environments.
- 2 years of team management experience
- Preferably time spent in a large global organisation
