Who we are: Sydney Water is undertaking a 10-year multibillion dollar Infrastructure program to renew, expand & build infrastructure to support a more sustainable, resilient, and efficient water network for Sydney’s growing population. About This Role: As our Project Risk Manager, you’ll play a key role in helping us deliver major infrastructure projects with confidence. You’ll lead project risk management across the asset lifecycle, providing expert advice, assurance and practical risk strategies that support successful project outcomes. Working closely with leaders across Systems Planning, Program Delivery and Major Projects, you’ll influence decision-making, optimise delivery approaches and contribute to the broader Project Controls leadership team.

Extensive experience in risk management for major construction and infrastructure projects is essential. Candidates with experience limited to IT, finance, or banking will NOT meet the role criteria.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead and continuously improve project risk management frameworks, standards and practices to strengthen risk maturity across major infrastructure projects.
  • Provide expert risk advice, assurance and quantitative analysis to support informed decision-making, including time and cost contingency management.
  • Partner with project and delivery leaders to embed a proactive, risk-aware culture and ensure effective risk controls are in place throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead, coach and develop the Project Risk team, building capability and driving consistent, best-practice risk management across the business.
  • Oversee risk governance, reporting, reviews and training, ensuring compliance with organisational frameworks while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in risk management and audit certifications, and membership with a recognised professional body (e.g. RMIA, PMI or Engineers Australia).
  • Significant experience in project risk management within large-scale construction, infrastructure or capital delivery environments.
  • Deep expertise in risk management, assurance and governance, with a proven track record of applying enterprise risk frameworks in complex organisations.
  • Strong quantitative risk analysis capabilities, including cost and schedule risk assessment, contingency modelling and risk-informed decision-making.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and leadership skills, with the ability to influence outcomes, provide trusted advice and build risk management capability across diverse teams.
