THE ROLE INVOLVES:

The Automation Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, stability, and release readiness of business critical ("crown jewel") applications in an Agile/DevOps environment.

The role focuses on leading and professionalizing regression, system, and integration testing, with a strong emphasis on automation and continuous improvement.

Working closely with IT Engineers, product owners, business stakeholders, and external vendors, the Automation Test Engineer takes ownership of end-to-end testing activities for large releases.

While unit testing is primarily the responsibility of IT Engineers, this role ensures that higher level testing is structured, automated where possible, and embedded into the CI/CD pipeline to enable faster and safer releases.

The Automation Test Engineer acts as a quality lead within delivery teams, providing transparency on risks, test outcomes, and release readiness. The overall objective is to increase the speed of testing while continuously improving quality, enabling reliable delivery of changes to critical production systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead on testing activities for large and business critical (crown jewel) application releases.
  • Own and evolve the test strategy, with a strong focus on automated regression, system, and integration testing.
  • Define what should be automated versus manual, ensuring fast feedback and high confidence in releases.
  • Build, maintain, and integrate test automation into the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Collaborate closely with IT Engineers (who own unit testing) to ensure alignment across the test pyramid.
  • Work with product owners, business stakeholders, and vendors to clarify requirements, risks, and acceptance criteria.
  • Provide clear visibility into quality, test results, and release readiness.
  • Continuously improve testing processes and tooling to increase speed, reliability, and quality.

TECHNICAL PLAYGROUND:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as an Automation Test Engineer using different test automation tools.
  • Proven experience working with different programming languages (Python preferred).
  • Proven experience setting-up Test Management standards and processes.
  • Relevant experience with Test automation libraries such as Playwright, Postman, TestRail, Junit5 or RestAssured.
  • Proven experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab preferred).
  • Experience with SQL & Database technologies (Oracle, PostgreSQL preferred).

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Cloud exposure (AWS preferred).
  • Awareness of critical concepts in DevOps and Agile principles.
  • A demonstrated record of achievement in large technical (migration) projects.
  • Ability to keep up with software and cloud development trends and innovation.
  • Understanding of financial services and risk management in general.
  • Relevant university degree in Computer Science/Engineering.

SOFT SKILLS:

  • Fluent English, with good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong communicator who is comfortable proactively engaging with external vendors, leading discussions, asking critical questions, and representing the organization in vendor and partner calls.
  • Strong engineering instinct (do the right thing), a deep understanding of computer science.
  • Strong interpersonal and assertive communication skills, great team member.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Desire to continuously learn and improve in a complex, rapidly evolving environment.
