- Core Knowledge & Skills: Optimizes complex SQL; applies advanced data modeling; leads robust ETL/ELT; uses big data technologies (e.g., Spark); enforces governance; implements ML/predictive solutions; manages scalable pipelines.

As your initial project assignment, you will support the unique needs of our client as a Data Engineer (Analytics).
Project Summary
AIS is seeking a Data Engineer (Analytics) to support a federal law enforcement mission by designing, developing, and maintaining data analytics solutions that enable informed decision-making and operational effectiveness. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders, data engineers, analysts, and technical teams to transform complex data into actionable insights through reporting, dashboard development, and advanced data analysis. This role requires strong analytical skills, database expertise, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather business and technical requirements from stakeholders to support reporting and analytical needs.
- Collect, integrate, and analyze data from multiple structured and unstructured data sources.
- Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations to support mission objectives.
- Create and optimize scalable, high-performance SQL queries and analytics solutions.
- Research, understand, and combine disparate data sources to deliver meaningful insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve data quality and performance issues.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Respond to evolving mission requirements and deliver solutions within established timelines.
- Support continuous improvement of data engineering, analytics, and reporting processes.
Required for This Opportunity
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS 6C Public Trust clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field.
- Experience developing reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational database concepts.
- Experience working with Oracle and/or PostgreSQL databases.
- Experience querying and analyzing data using Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
- Experience integrating and analyzing data from multiple disparate data sources.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC during core business hours.
Nice to Have Skills
- Experience with AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, and OpenSearch.
- Experience working with JSON data structures and data transformation techniques.
- Experience developing dashboards and reports using Power BI and/or Tableau.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and tools such as Git and Jenkins.
- Knowledge of modern data architectures and data management patterns, including:
- Data Warehouses
- Data Marts
- Data Lakes
- Delta Lakes
- Lakehouses
- Data Mesh Architectures
- Experience supporting government, law enforcement, or other high-security environments.
- Experience with emerging analytics and cloud technologies.

The targeted base salary range for this role is $110,000-$166,000 per year. Please note that this range is provided as a guideline and the final offer will be based on several factors, including but not limited to, skillset and competencies, level of experience, education, certifications, and location.
