Join us as a Senior Legal Counsel

The Senior Legal Counsel provides strategic solution-focused legal advice that supports delivery of the company’s business plan, network and IT strategy and large-scale infrastructure programmes. As a key advisor to the business, the Senior Legal Counsel role leads on complex, high-value and long-term commercial arrangements for network infrastructure and IT, managed services and critical supply chains, ensuring that legal and regulatory risk is effectively managed while enabling delivery of business objectives.

What else it involves The Senior Legal Counsel will:

  • Lead the negotiation and

drafting of complex, high‑value, multi‑year technology, infrastructure and supply agreements, including network equipment supply, managed services, deployment programmes, and IT software and licensing arrangements;

  • Provide clear, concise,

timely commercially‑focussed legal advice to Technology, Networks, Procurement and Finance teams in order to support delivery of the company’s network strategy and commercial objectives;

  • Support and advise on

strategic sourcing and procurement processes, including RFPs, bidding processes and contract structuring, to ensure optimal commercial and risk outcomes;

  • Structure and negotiate

key contractual frameworks including service levels, performance regimes, milestone delivery, acceptance and testing, warranty and lifecycle obligations;

  • Identify, assess and

manage legal, commercial and operational risk in large‑scale and long‑term supply and managed services arrangements, including advising on appropriate risk allocation and mitigation strategies;

  • Lead negotiations on

liability regimes, indemnities, limitation of liability, termination rights (including exit and transition), change control mechanisms, and intellectual property ownership and licensing structures;

  • Support governance and

internal approval processes for material commercial commitments, ensuring alignment with company and Group policies and risk appetite;

  • Advise on supplier

performance, disputes, claims and contract variations to ensure the company’s contractual position is protected throughout the lifecycle of key agreements;

  • Partner with Regulatory

and Compliance teams to ensure that arrangements comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations, including telecommunications, security and data protection requirements;

  • Manage and report legal

matters in accordance with company and Group policies so that the business operates in line with corporate governance requirements and maintains stakeholder confidence;

  • Instruct and manage

external lawyers as and when required, including managing legal budget as it relates to specific instructions so that external legal advice is focused, appropriate and provided in a cost‑effective manner.

The Skills we are looking for: Must Have

  • Minimum 7 years’ post-qualification experience in commercial/technology law

in-house or private practice.

Strong experience advising on:

  • Negotiating and drafting a range of

complex technology, infrastructure, outsourcing, managed services, IT and services and supply contracts,

  • Structuring and

negotiating large‑scale commercial transactions, including long‑term and high‑value strategic supplier arrangements;

  • Risk allocation in complex

contracts, including service levels, performance regimes, liability models, indemnities and termination frameworks;

  • Advising on procurement

processes, including competitive tenders and RFP‑based sourcing;

  • Intellectual property

ownership, licensing and use in technology and infrastructure contexts;

  • Contract lifecycle

management, including variation, dispute resolution and supplier management; and

  • Advising in a regulated

environment, including telecommunications, infrastructure or similarly regulated sectors.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including dealing

directly with senior internal clients.

  • Demonstrated proactive and effective business counselling, issue spotting,

problem solving, negotiation and analytical skills representing the business on diverse issues and projects with a proven track record of influencing effectively to build consensus and achieve objectives.

  • Proven ability and enthusiasm working in cross-functional multidisciplinary

teams.

  • Excellent communicator with ability to explain complex issues with demonstrated

ability to identify and communicate broader business and legal risks and opportunities outside of, but relevant to, specific legal projects.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of and experience advising on telecoms regulation and network

infrastructure obligations;

  • Understanding of security, resilience and operational requirements in critical

infrastructure environments;

  • Experience working on cross‑border or multi‑jurisdictional supply arrangements.
