ROLE PROFILE:

Self-starting, passionate and intellectually curious Senior Data Protection Engineer to join the LSEG Storage and Data Protection team. Responsible for administering and engineering the data protection platform while driving automation, reliability, observability and operational excellence initiatives. The role focuses on reducing manual effort through automation, implementing self-service capabilities, improving service reliability and enabling a modern SRE operating model for backup and recovery services.

The successful candidate will combine deep expertise in Rubrik with automation, software engineering and AI-assisted operations to help transform backup operations from a reactive support function into a highly automated and resilient platform engineering team.

ROLE SUMMARY:

Senior Backup & Data Protection SME responsible for the global backup and data protection estate for LSEG, with ownership of platform reliability, automation strategy, observability, operational tooling and continuous service improvement.

The role will drive the adoption of SRE principles, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines and AI-powered operational efficiencies across Backup Services.

HIGH LEVEL ROLE

  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in Rubrik with 5-7 years of operational and engineering experience in enterprise backup environments.
  • Design, develop and maintain automation solutions using Python to eliminate repetitive operational activities and improve service efficiency.
  • Create and manage GitLab repositories, branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews and automated deployment processes.
  • Develop API-based integrations between Rubrik, ServiceNow, monitoring tools, CMDB and enterprise management platforms.
  • Drive adoption of SRE principles including Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Error Budgets and Reliability Engineering practices.
  • Build automation workflows for backup onboarding, policy assignment, SLA management, reporting, compliance checks and recovery validation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce operational toil through self-service capabilities and automated remediation solutions.
  • Develop self-healing mechanisms for common backup failures and operational issues.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Azure OpenAI and AIOps platforms to improve operational productivity and incident response efficiency.
  • Create intelligent operational dashboards, analytics and predictive capacity reporting using monitoring and visualization platforms.
  • Analyze service performance metrics and implement improvements that enhance platform reliability and recovery success rates.
  • Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices wherever applicable to support repeatable and auditable deployments.
  • Work closely with Storage, Server, Cloud, Security, Network and Application teams to improve service resilience and automation maturity.
  • Establish operational standards, coding standards and automation governance within the backup team.
  • Create reusable automation modules, libraries and frameworks to accelerate engineering activities across the organization.
  • Lead root cause analysis activities for major incidents and focus on permanent resolution through engineering improvements rather than operational workarounds.
  • Engineer proactive monitoring, alerting and observability solutions that identify issues before they impact service availability.
  • Build automated health-check frameworks to continuously validate backup infrastructure health and recovery readiness.
  • Develop automated compliance reporting and backup assurance reporting for internal stakeholders and auditors.
  • Own and continuously improve backup success rate, recovery success rate, operational efficiency metrics, and overall service reliability.
  • Support capacity management activities using predictive analytics and trend-based forecasting.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and contribute to the strategic roadmap of Data Protection and Recovery Services.
  • Mentor and guide team members in scripting, automation development, GitLab practices, DevOps methodologies and SRE concepts.
  • Establish continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing incidents, reducing Mean Time To Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time To Recover (MTTR).
  • Build knowledge repositories, runbooks, operational playbooks and automation documentation to improve operational maturity.
  • Support a 24x5 operational environment while constantly driving reduction in manual support effort through automation.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating ownership, innovation and an engineering-first mindset.
