Accountabilities: The Principal Ruby on Rails Engineer will serve as a technical leader responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting scalable software solutions. This role combines hands-on engineering expertise with architectural guidance, collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Design, develop, and maintain core RESTful APIs using Ruby on Rails while ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with engineering, QA, and infrastructure teams to build robust backend systems, automated testing practices, and efficient deployment processes.
- Participate in software architecture discussions, technical planning, and code reviews to ensure high-quality engineering standards.
- Develop and optimize integrations with internal platforms, external APIs, and enterprise systems.
- Support backend infrastructure development using infrastructure-as-code practices and collaborate on cloud and deployment improvements.
- Build and maintain internal data pipelines, analytics solutions, and business intelligence tools.
- Improve application performance through API scaling, optimization initiatives, and proactive technical enhancements.
- Establish and promote security, compliance, documentation, and operational excellence practices.
- Provide technical mentorship, coaching, and guidance to engineers while sharing expertise across teams.
- Troubleshoot production issues and ensure solutions are maintainable, testable, and aligned with business needs.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate brings extensive software engineering experience, strong Ruby on Rails expertise, and the ability to lead technical initiatives in a collaborative environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology discipline or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- 8+ years of engineering or related IT experience, including experience in a technical leadership capacity.
- Strong hands-on experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails development.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL, ActiveRecord, and writing automated tests using RSpec.
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools and software delivery practices.
- Experience building and consuming command-line tools and designing complex technical solutions.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and collaborative product teams.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform is a plus.
- Experience designing high-transaction API systems and highly available enterprise SaaS platforms is preferred.
- Background working in regulated industries, particularly financial technology environments, is advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Solid understanding of software development practices, security principles, and modern engineering tools.
