Step into a key position within VAT compliance at RSM UK as a Senior Data Engineer in our Global VAT Team (GVAT). As a Senior Data Engineer to join our growing Data Services team, you’ll be delivering modern data integration solutions for a diverse portfolio of clients. This is a hands-on role that combines technical delivery with client engagement. You'll work closely with customers to understand their business processes, existing data landscape and integration requirements before designing and implementing practical cloud-based solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Azure.

You'll play an active role throughout the project lifecycle—from discovery and solution design through to implementation, deployment and ongoing support—ensuring every solution is secure, scalable, reliable and easy to maintain.

You will make an impact by:

  • Building strong relationships with clients by understanding their business processes, systems and data integration requirements.
  • Leading discovery workshops and technical discussions to gather requirements and translate business needs into practical, scalable solutions.
  • Designing, developing and maintaining data integration solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Azure.
  • Building secure REST API and SFTP integrations between internal applications and third-party platforms.
  • Developing and supporting Microsoft Fabric Lakehouses, Warehouses, Dataflows and Data Pipelines.
  • Designing and implementing ETL and ELT solutions that integrate data from SQL Server, APIs, CSV, Excel, JSON and XML sources.
  • Collaborating with Data Architects, Solution Architects, Business Analysts, Project Managers and delivery teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contributing to solution design, technical planning and implementation activities across multiple projects.
  • Monitoring production data solutions and investigate incidents using a structured root cause analysis approach.
  • Implementing improvements that enhance platform reliability, performance and maintainability.

Preferred qualifications & experience

  • Commercial experience in Data Engineering and Data Integration.
  • Strong SQL and Python development skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure data services.
  • Strong understanding of ETL and ELT design principles.
  • Experience building REST API and secure SFTP integrations.
  • Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage and Azure Data Factory.
  • Experience integrating structured and semi-structured data sources.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work across multiple client engagements.
  • Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:

- Azure Functions - Azure Logic Apps - Power BI - Spark or PySpark - Consultancy or professional services experience - Microsoft Azure or Microsoft Fabric certifications
