The Plant Support Engineer is responsible for identifying, evaluating, planning, and executing projects and technical improvements related to manufacturing processes, production equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure. This role manages projects through all phases of the project lifecycle including concept development/scope, budgeting, procurement, implementation, and project closure. The Plant Support Engineer serves as a technical resource for troubleshooting and resolving equipment and process issues and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The position partners with production, maintenance, quality, and operations teams to improve safety, reliability, quality, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide direct engineering support to production, maintenance, quality, and operations teams. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize and execute engineering initiatives.
- Investigate and support troubleshooting of equipment, processes, utility, and facility issues; recommend technically sound solutions.
- Participate in root cause investigations and support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and production requirements.
- Support and execute assigned capital and expense projects from concept through commissioning and closeout.
- Contribute to project scopes, technical specifications, schedules, and resource requirements; monitor project budgets, timelines, risks, and technical issues; communicate status updates and findings to stakeholders.
- Coordinate with internal resources, contractors, vendors, and consultants to successfully execute projects. Monitor contractor activities to ensure safe and efficient work execution.
- Support site shutdown planning and execution activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, reliability, productivity, and operating costs.
- Analyze equipment and process performance data to identify improvement opportunities. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization efforts and lead assigned activities when appropriate.
- Support reliability improvement initiatives through equipment modifications and process enhancements.
- Ensure projects and engineering activities comply with applicable regulatory, safety, environmental, and company requirements.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) activities and associated risk assessments.
- Draft, update, and revise engineering documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, process and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs,) equipment specifications, and commissioning documents.
- Maintain accurate project records, drawings, technical files, and closeout documentation.
- Support internal and external audits as required.
- Research, evaluate, and select equipment, materials, and service providers.
- Create technical bid packages and review vendor proposals.
- Support technical oversight during equipment installation, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Participate in engineering department planning and improvement activities.
- Provide technical training and support for new
equipment and process implementations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, chemical, industrial, or related discipline required.
- Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing, process engineering, continuous improvement, or related industrial experience.
- Experience supporting process optimization, troubleshooting, and implementation of process improvements.
- Experience working in a cross-functional manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of process engineering principles, statistical analysis, root cause investigation, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience analyzing manufacturing data.
- Familiarity with process documentation, risk assessment, validation, and change management practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard manufacturing software systems.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and support projects to completion.
- Demonstrated initiative, ownership, and continuous improvement mindset.
Working Location
- Position is 100% on site at the West Point 415 building.
- Will require occasional weekend work to accommodate project installations.
