Java Developer
Job Description
So, who are we? IG Group is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses.
The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next. Join us at IG – the future gets built here.
Your team
This role sits in the Data Office, within the Regulatory Reporting stream of Data Platforms. The team owns the pipelines that turn trade and transaction data into regulatory submissions, and works closely with upstream trading systems teams (data in), Compliance (rule interpretation and sign-off), and QA/DevOps (deployment and observability). Reporting into the Engineering Manager, Regulatory Reporting, this is currently an individual contributor role, with scope to take on direct reports as the team grows.
Your role in the Team’s Success
We're looking for a Java full stack developer to help build and evolve the platform that keeps IG's regulatory reporting accurate across MiFID II, EMIR and ASIC obligations. You'll work across the trade lifecycle, from data capture through transformation to submission, as part of a small, high-ownership team inside the Data Office. This role is scoped to be filled at either Developer or Senior Developer level, with scope of ownership set accordingly.
What you’ll do
Development & delivery
- Build and maintain Java-based services across the regulatory reporting pipeline, from trade capture through transformation to submission.
- Design and implement full stack features, from Spring Boot services through to Kafka-based messaging and downstream reporting outputs.
- Write robust, well-tested code (JUnit, Mockito) and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support frequent, safe deployment.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues across the reporting stack, working with Oracle SQL/PL-SQL and Hibernate-backed data models.
Regulatory & domain
- Translate regulatory reporting requirements (MiFID II, EMIR, ASIC) into technical designs, working with Compliance to interpret rule changes.
- Maintain and extend reporting logic across CFDs, FX, ETDs and OTC derivatives as products and obligations evolve.
Collaboration
- Partner with upstream trading systems teams to ensure trade and transaction data flows cleanly into the reporting pipeline.
- Work with QA and DevOps to ensure reliable, observable deployments (Docker, CI/CD).
What you’ll need for this role
Role Requirements
- 3 – 6 years of strong hands-on experience with Java (8/11), including solid grounding in OOP, collections and concurrency.
- Experience building services with Spring Boot, Spring MVC and Spring Data JPA.
- Experience with Hibernate and relational databases, ideally Oracle SQL/PL-SQL.
- Experience with Apache Kafka or similar messaging/streaming technology.
- Working knowledge of Maven, Git and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience writing automated tests with JUnit and Mockito.
- Exposure to Capital Markets products (OTC derivatives, CFDs, FX, or ETDs) or regulatory reporting; for Senior, direct hands-on experience in this domain.
Desirable
- Spring Batch, Spring Integration or Apache Camel experience.
- Serialisation formats such as Avro, JSON/Jackson or XML/JAXB.
- Caching technologies (Apache Ignite, Caffeine, Ehcache).
- BDD/Cucumber and REST Assured testing experience.
- Observability tooling (Grafana, Logback/SLF4J, OpenTelemetry).
- Deployment experience with HashiCorp Nomad/Consul, or blue-green/rolling deployments.
- Cloud experience on GCP (Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, BQ, Python, Spark Scala) or AWS (Lambda, S3, Glue, EMR, CloudWatch, SQS/SNS).
- Familiarity with trade lifecycle concepts (LEI/UTI/UPI, reporting fields).
- Scala/Spark or big data experience, React/TypeScript (for UI-facing work), or Terraform.
