Echo Product Operations team is looking for a Sr. Operations Program Manager (Sr. OPM) to work within the Device Operations group to develop innovative, new to world Amazon devices. You will lead product development during pre-concept stage, and balance a mix of strategic, programmatic, and operational responsibilities to optimize new product cost, quality, and time to market. The individual will have experience in New Product Introduction in an Operations/Manufacturing role pertaining to Consumer Electronics (or similar) and have proven communications skills and ability to influence.
As a Pre-Concept Sr. OPM, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive, design and develop innovative consumer products. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. This role drives leaders and cross-functional teams across a dynamic organization and requires excellent leadership skills to build trust and drive alignment across all levels of the organization.
Key job responsibilities This role is specifically in Echo Pre-concept space, to work on early stage scoping and definition for our new roadmap programs. The Operations Program Manager is a key member of the tight-knit cross-functional pre-concept team, responsible for and representing all facets of Device Operations. On top of normal pre-concept activities, as this role is based in Shenzhen, we expect this person to be a leader in early-stage prototyping and technology discovery.
- Delivers results on pre-concept programs as the single-threaded Operations owner to lead product development across internal teams and external development/manufacturing partners
- Develop manufacturing and supply chain strategies to meet product requirements.
- Support product concept development as Operations lead. Including ownership of product schedule, manufacturing strategy, product BOM+MVA cost, supplier sourcing strategy, Operations fixed cost drivers, and any Operations risk call-outs.
- Contribute to and influence new product design and architecture
- Arbitrate and drive to resolution organizational tension and competing goals in order to deliver a clean set of requirements for NPI execution
- Execute development builds by overseeing technical issue resolution and production schedule.
- Regular written and verbal communication to Leadership.
- Coordinate information flow across teams in support of manufacturing/operations.
- Drive alignment of processes and initiatives throughout Device Operations organization.
- Define and guide decisions on type of Variable Engagement Module (VEM) appropriate for the specific product, customer need, and launch schedule.
- Bring in and incorporate industry best practices into the Product Operations group.
- Travel as required to accomplish business needs.
A day in the life As a Pre-Concept Operations Program Manager, your day begins coordinating cross-functional teams across Engineering, Design, Finance, Product Management and others to drive pre-concept program forward. You'll influence product design decisions, develop manufacturing strategies, resolve technical issues, and communicate progress to leadership. In the afternoon, you're talking to teams in China and contract manufacturers, diving into manufacturing feasibility, design proposals, and build and material readiness. Throughout, you're the single-threaded owner ensuring innovative Echo products move from concept to reality.
About the team We are a team of high-performing, motivated, and collaborative individuals dedicated to defining and launching personalized devices that delight our customers and feed the broader Amazon ecosystem, especially the Alexa AI voice assistant. We provide product operations leadership and collaboration across all functions. As supply chain partners to the broader Amazon Devices organization, we work together to drive product roadmaps and guide portfolio direction.
Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related technical field - 5+ years of program management or technical project management experience - Experience with end to end product delivery - Experience owning feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product - Experience overseeing roadmap strategy and definition - Experience with data analysis - Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in a related technical field - 7+ years of consumer electronics experience - Experience working within a global company, with multi-country responsibilities - Experience in verbal and written communication for executive level leaders - Experience in creating products and services with hardware and software integrated - Experience building and analyzing cost/benefit scenarios and business cases and communicating results throughout the organization
