About Us | Mō mātou
Identity Data & Analytics (IDnA) is one of the branch's main data analytics teams, bringing together data engineers, analysts and dashboard developers, and data scientists across the full data lifecycle, from sourcing and modelling through to BI, advanced analytics and insight delivery. We deliver data marts, BI products and statistical modelling that shape operational and policy decision-making
Important to note: The two Data Engineer roles are fixed-term supporting the establishment phase of a high-profile multi-year programme, funded through to November 2026. A funding decision in October 2026 will confirm continuation beyond that point. If approved, the programme is expected to run through subsequent phases to around mid-to-late 2028. While future phases are contingent on funding approval, we are committed to retaining talented people throughout the programme lifecycle wherever possible.
The role | Te tūnga
This is an ideal opportunity for a technically strong Data Engineer / Data Warehouse Developer who enjoys working with complex data and business logic and modern Microsoft data platform practices:
- Build and maintain data pipelines from structured and semi-structured sources into the data platform and curated data marts, including warehouse tables, views, staging layers and analytical datasets.
- Apply engineering standards to dimensional modelling and reusable data mart design for BI, analytics and reporting.
- Translate business rules and source-system logic into clear, maintainable SQL transformations, stored procedures and scripts.
- Migrate legacy reporting logic, including SAS processes, into modern Microsoft data platform solutions, reconciling outputs across source systems, legacy reports, dashboards and new datasets to build confidence in the data.
- Document pipelines, lineage, transformation logic, business rules, assumptions and known limitations, and apply data quality checks to deliver governed, trusted, reusable data products.
- Work with other data engineers, analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders to ensure datasets are fit for purpose, and contribute to reusable standards and patterns that improve consistency and maintainability across data platform and BI delivery.
