We are currently seeking to employ a talented and highly-motivated “Java Web Developer” to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

• You design, develop and maintain Java-based web applications for front-office insurance systems, applying object-oriented programming principles and modern web technologies and frameworks. The software you deliver is readable, maintainable and aligned with established coding standards, and is supported by automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
• You define technical specifications by understanding business requirements, breaking down problems, assessing impacted system components and identifying dependencies with other systems.
• You provide effort estimates for development tasks, taking into account complexity, risk and areas of uncertainty. Planning is carried out based on business priorities and team estimations.
• You identify and propose new technologies and tools that address business and technical challenges. You communicate ideas effectively within the team, present them clearly and help stakeholders understand their value and impact. You actively share knowledge within the team and across the organization.
• You create developer documentation and guidelines and contribute to user documentation when required. You maintain appropriate code comments, produce design documentation where necessary and develop training materials for fellow software engineers.
• You create and maintain build scripts that prepare software releases for test and production environments, and you author deployment plans to be executed by IT Operations.

Knowledge:

• BSc or MSc in Computing/ Mathematics/ Engineering.
• Experience in Java web development using frameworks such as JSP, JSF, Apache Struts, GWT or Apache Wicket.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in software engineering.
• Strong programming and software design skills, aligned with the candidate’s level of seniority.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems architecture.
• Solid working knowledge of web technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
• Basic knowledge of Agile/Scrum way of working.
• Strong analytical thinking.
• Experience in creating technical documentation, developer guidelines or training material.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
• Excellent knowledge of English language.
