Job Description

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure. 

Accountabilities

  • Build and maintenance of data architectures pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete and consistent data.
  • Design and implementation of data warehoused and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
  • Development of processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
  • Collaboration with data scientist to build and deploy machine learning models.

To be successful as a Data Engineering Manager (DBA), you should have experience with:

Deep expertise in:

  • RAC, ASM
  • Data Guard, GoldenGate
  • RMAN backup/recovery
  • Strong SQL and PL/SQL skills
  • OCI Cloud Expertise
  • Hands-on experience designing and managing:
  • OCI database services (DB Systems, Autonomous DB, Exadata)
  • OCI Networking (VCN, DRG, Load Balancers)
  • IAM and security models
  • Experience with multi-region and hybrid cloud setups

Architecture & Strategy

  • Define and lead database architecture strategy across on-prem and OCI environments
  • Design high availability, disaster recovery, and multi-region architectures
  • Drive cloud adoption and migration strategy (on-prem → OCI)
  • Establish database standards, best practices, and governance frameworks
  • OCI Cloud Leadership

Architect and manage:

  • OCI DB Systems (Bare Metal / VM DB)
  • Autonomous Databases (ATP, ADW)
  • Exadata Cloud Service (preferred)
  • Lead OCI landing zone design (networking, IAM, security architecture)
  • Optimize cost, performance, and scalability in OCI environments
  • Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform/OCI Resource Manager

Performance & Scalability

  • Lead advanced performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Analyze AWR, ASH, ADDM reports for deep insights
  • Design systems for high throughput, low latency, and scalability
  • Implement partitioning, sharding, indexing, and workload management
  • High Availability & DR

Architect and manage:

  • Oracle RAC
  • Data Guard (Active Data Guard)
  • GoldenGate replication
  • Design zero/near-zero downtime architectures
  • Conduct DR drills, failover/failback testing
  • Automation & Engineering Mindset

  • Build frameworks using:

  • Integrate database deployments into CI/CD pipelines
  • Introduce self-healing and auto-scaling mechanisms

Migration & Modernization

  • Lead large-scale database migrations using:
  • RMAN / Data Pump
  • OCI Database Migration Service
  • GoldenGate

Modernize legacy databases to:

  • Autonomous DB
  • Cloud-native architectures
  • Security & Compliance
  • Define and enforce enterprise-grade security architecture

Implement:

  • TDE (Transparent Data Encryption)
  • Data masking, auditing, and access control
  • Ensure compliance with standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS where applicable)
  • Other essential responsibilities:
  • Act as technical authority and escalation point for complex issues
  • Mentor junior DBAs and lead cross-functional teams
