JOB TITLE Well Engineering Manager

REPORTS TO DVP, Wells

DEPARTMENT TECHNICAL

JOB PURPOSE

The Well Engineering Manager provides the delivery framework for well drilling and intervention activities to create and protect value in OML-17.

ROLE:

  • To Support Heirs Energies Value Creation through the delivery of new wells in OML-17.
  • Leads delivery of well design, well planning and drilling operation in OML-17 according to guidelines and processes set out in international and/or local standards, and regulations.
  • Ensures optimal, safe and cost effective well design is prepared, and detailed procedures are provided to the execution team.
  • Supports the operations team during execution providing operational follow up, technical assistance, and troubleshooting support.
  • Reviews design and /or execution optimization opportunities and coordinate its implementation.

JOB CONTEXT & KEY CHALLENGES

  • Safely deliver new wells for Heirs Energies.
  • Work closely with Petroleum Engineering for integrated well planning and drilling.
  • Drive Drilling Teams to enhance safe and efficient drilling operations.
  • Well Design: Design options, including directional drilling, sand control requirements.
  • Well Plan: Casing design and Well path Design. Casing Requirement & Pressure Test
  • Drilling / Completion Fluid Design: Drilling fluid selection, Completion Fluid Design
  • Drilling Equipment: Rig Requirements & Availability. Rig specification and availability assessment.
  • Location Selection: Surface Location Selection & Land Use Optimization. Choice of surface location and clustering.
  • Technical Risks: Drilling & Completion Technical Risks and Includes mitigations.
  • Drilling Waste Management: Outlines requirements, options, and selected concepts
  • Well Technology Plan: Linked to Drilling & Completion Risks
  • Wells Cost Estimate: Well cost estimate, based on Level 2 definition.

People: Mentoring and development of less experienced Wells staff on wells and related discipline activities.

Processes / Procedures / Standards

  • Identification and implementation of minimum technical standards relevant to the Wells disciplines.
  • Accountable for assurance of Wells inputs into projects.

DIMENSIONS (METRICS)

  • Some 100+ Wells over a 5-year period will be drilled as part of the Heirs Energies growth plan in OML-17.
  • Annual budget- As required. Up to USD100mln per annum.
  • Selection of well drilling equipment including rigs and associated services and contracts.
  • Accountable for Safety standards in wells planning and operations.
  • No of direct reports. 1-4 Staff; Drilling contractor personnel

  • Highly competent technical professional with sound knowledge of Petroleum Engineering
  • Good organizational and managerial skills.
  • Good team player
  • Extensive Oil industry experience. In-depth knowledge of subject discipline.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A university degree in in Engineering, or a related fields with a minimum qualification of second class upper.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

  • 15+ year's as well engineering professional with at least 5 years' experience of leading or managing a well engineering team.
  • Knowledgeable in Wells HSSE processes and track record of delivery.
  • Well Control certification and or Geo-mechanics knowledge is an advantage.
  • Knowledge about HPHT, Deep Drilling, and MPD operations.
  • Capability to operate a drilling operation both directly and through others.
  • Broad knowledge/experience with subsurface and wells discipline activities.
  • Broad knowledge/experience of producing operations activities and surface operations.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to pull together information, identify the issues, then formulate and deliver action plans.
  • Ability to manage delivery through service contractors and specialists.
  • Knowledgeable in oil industry technical processes (including Well delivery processes, hydrocarbon field development planning etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and experience in interacting with internal and external stakeholder.
