Job Description

Benzinga is seeking an Analytics Engineering Intern to join our Data Science team for a 12-week, part-time, remote internship. This is an analytics and business-intelligence-focused role centered on data modeling, dashboards, and data interpretation — not a software engineering role. You will build SQL data models within our data pipeline framework and design meaningful dashboards, assess data quality, and translate raw data into insights stakeholders can act on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write SQL that transforms raw data into structured datasets as part of a data pipeline and turn it into something a dashboard can use.
  • Support existing reporting and develop new reporting and dashboard work.
  • Build a deliverable project: design and build SQL data models connecting to a source dataset, build a Looker Studio dashboard, validate with a stakeholder, and present both the dashboard and the findings uncovered along the way.
  • Conduct data quality checks and learn to identify and troubleshoot common data issues.
  • Collaborate with a stakeholder to ensure a dashboard deliverable actually answers the business question being asked, not just the question as first stated.
  • Present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Use AI coding assistants as a tool to accelerate work, with the expectation that all code is understood, verified, and can be explained rather than accepted at face value.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Economics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Basic SQL proficiency: comfortable with SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY, and simple aggregations
  • Basic familiarity with version control concepts, such as using Git.

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to a BI/visualization tool (Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI)
  • Familiarity with GitLab or GitHub merge request/pull request workflow.
  • Exposure to web application, marketing, or financial/media data.
  • Prior experience using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) for coursework or personal projects.
