Full description

Senior Data Engineer

Location: Fully Remote (UK)

Salary: 65,000 - 70,000

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

We're partnering with a growing organisation looking to expand its data team with the addition of a Senior Data Engineer.

This is a hands-on role working across a modern data environment, with responsibility for building, developing and optimising data pipelines and platforms that support reporting, analytics and wider business decision-making.

You'll work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and will have genuine ownership of the solutions you build. We're looking for someone who is confident working with modern data engineering technologies and, importantly, has real commercial experience using them in production rather than simply exposure to them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines and integration solutions
  • Work extensively with Databricks to develop and support modern data engineering solutions
  • Build and maintain data transformation models using dbt
  • Develop and manage data orchestration workflows using tools such as Azure Data Factory, Apache Airflow or similar
  • Write, optimise and troubleshoot complex SQL
  • Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate these into effective technical solutions
  • Improve data quality, reliability, performance and monitoring across the data platform
  • Contribute to data architecture, engineering standards and best practices
  • Support the delivery of data-driven projects across the business

Required Experience

  • Proven commercial experience working as a Data Engineer or in a similar data engineering role
  • Strong SQL skills, with confidence writing, optimising and troubleshooting complex queries
  • Hands-on commercial experience with Databricks, ideally within a production data environment
  • Genuine hands-on experience with dbt, including developing and maintaining data models and transformation pipelines
  • Experience with data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of modern ETL/ELT, data pipelines, data modelling and data quality
  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms across Azure, AWS or GCP
  • Strong Python skills for data engineering
  • Good understanding of data warehousing and modern data architecture
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Snowflake experience would be highly desirable.

What's on Offer

  • Fully remote working within the UK
  • 65,000 - 70,000 salary
  • Opportunity to work with a modern data engineering stack
  • Genuine ownership of data pipelines and engineering solutions
  • Exposure to a range of data and analytics projects
  • Flexible working environment
  • Opportunities for professional development and progression

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Senior Data Engineer who wants to work with modern technologies including Databricks, dbt and cloud-based orchestration tools, while having genuine ownership and impact within a growing data function.
