Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Project Manager to oversee large-scale commercial electrical construction projects throughout the Detroit area. Projects include hospitals, healthcare facilities, universities, institutional buildings, and other complex commercial developments.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of project management experience with a commercial electrical contractor and a strong understanding of electrical construction from project turnover through final closeout. This role requires hands-on ownership of project financials, labor planning, procurement, scheduling, field coordination, and client communication.
You will work closely with field leadership, estimating, BIM/VDC, general contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Manage commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction turnover through final closeout.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, manpower plans, procurement schedules, and execution strategies.
- Manage project budgets, cost forecasts, billing, committed costs, labor productivity, and overall profitability.
- Coordinate field supervisors, electricians, subcontractors, vendors, general contractors, and internal project teams.
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and construction schedules.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, material procurement, project documentation, and closeout requirements.
- Work closely with estimating and BIM/VDC teams to ensure accurate scope, constructability, coordination, and field execution.
- Lead project meetings and maintain consistent communication with clients, general contractors, inspectors, design teams, and company leadership.
- Monitor project performance and proactively address labor, material, scheduling, coordination, and financial risks.
- Support field operations by ensuring crews have the information, materials, and resources required to maintain productivity.
- Track project changes and ensure additional work is properly documented, priced, approved, and billed.
- Maintain accountability for project safety, quality, schedule, financial performance, and client satisfaction.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Project Management experience in commercial electrical construction.
- Direct experience working for a commercial electrical contractor or self-performing electrical construction company is required.
- Strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems, installation methods, construction sequencing, labor planning, and field operations.
- Proven ability to independently manage electrical projects from startup through final closeout.
- Strong experience with project budgeting, forecasting, billing, procurement, labor productivity, and change order management.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and construction schedules.
- Experience coordinating field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, general contractors, and internal departments.
- Strong understanding of project cost control and financial accountability.
- Excellent leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Experience with healthcare, hospitals, higher education, institutional, or other large-scale commercial projects is strongly preferred.
